About Seraya

Seraya Special School is a new, purpose-built centre in Malaysia empowering children and young adults with special needs through education, therapy, vocational training, and pathways to employment.

Backed by MIJ Hub, a Singapore-based non-profit with 14 years of impact, three centres, and social enterprises serving hundreds of neurodivergent individuals. Seraya represents the next chapter in our journey toward inclusive education across the region — a dedicated hub for children with higher needs, supporting every stage of growth from early childhood to adulthood.

About the role

As Intervention Specialist, you'll design and deliver individualized intervention programmes for students with special needs and learning challenges — assessing needs, building intervention plans, and providing direct support toward each student's developmental, behavioural, and academic goals. A distinctive part of this role is movement-based intervention: you'll integrate movement as a therapeutic tool and train educators across the school to become movement practitioners themselves.

Key Responsibilities

Individualized Intervention Planning

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify each student's behavioural, academic, and developmental needs
  • Develop Individualized Intervention Plans (IIPs), incorporating movement-based strategies where appropriate
  • Align plans with educators, therapists, and families around shared goals

Direct Support & Movement Practice

  • Deliver evidence-based intervention directly to students across behavioural, academic, and movement domains
  • Train educators as movement practitioners, building school-wide capability to use movement as an intervention tool
  • Monitor and adjust strategies as student needs evolve

Progress Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track and document progress against IIP goals using regular, structured assessment
  • Use data to drive iterative refinement of intervention strategies
  • Report progress clearly to families, educators, and the multidisciplinary team

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Partner with therapists, counsellors, and specialists for holistic, coordinated support
  • Lead or contribute to team meetings on student progress and complex cases
  • Coach families on reinforcing intervention and movement goals at home

Crisis & Behaviour Management

  • Develop and lead crisis intervention strategies for students with challenging behaviours
  • Build Behaviour Intervention Plans (BIPs) and monitor their effectiveness
  • Train staff in de-escalation and behaviour management techniques

Training & Professional Development

  • Design and run workshops for educators, aides, and families on intervention and movement strategies
  • Keep the wider team current on best practice through ongoing professional development

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, timely intervention documentation in line with regulatory and internal standards
  • Report on intervention outcomes to school leadership
  • Stay current with research in intervention, movement therapy, and special education

What You Bring

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Psychology, Movement Therapy, or a related field
  • Certification in behaviour intervention, movement-based therapy, or a related discipline (preferred)
  • Proven track record designing and delivering intervention plans for individuals with special needs, including movement-based approaches
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated student support
  • Movement practitioner expertise, with the ability to train others in it
  • Strong behavioural intervention and behaviour management skills
  • Analytical mindset — comfortable turning assessment data into actionable plan adjustments
  • Confident crisis management and de-escalation capability
  • Collaborative, clear communicator across families, educators, and specialists
