Company Description:

DeepTerra transforms existing fibre-optic cables into an AI-powered real-time monitoring system — no new hardware infrastructure needed. Using Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), we turn dormant telecom fibre into thousands of virtual sensors that detect intrusion, theft, structural damage, and leaks across critical infrastructure — for a fraction of the cost of traditional monitoring.

We're a team of engineers and scientists (4+ years of DAS R&D with Universiti Malaya, 2x patents pending) building toward pilot deployments with major telecom and O&G players in Southeast Asia. We're now looking for a founding technical partner to build the software backbone of our product.

Role Description

You'll own the full software layer that sits between our proprietary DAS hardware (DTAS) and the customers who rely on it. This isn't a "maintain existing systems" role — you're building the architecture from close to zero, working directly with our hardware and DAS signal-processing team.

Specifically, you'll build:

• Hardware interface layer — software that communicates with our DTAS interrogator hardware, handling data acquisition and control.
• Local edge application (Linux/Windows) — a high-throughput application for real-time DAS signal processing and on-device AI model inference (anomaly detection, event classification), deployed at customer sites.
• Cloud web dashboard — a real-time monitoring dashboard, hosted on cloud infrastructure, capable of connecting to multiple hardware units simultaneously and streaming live event data, alerts, and historical analytics to customers.

You'll work closely with our Chief Scientist (DAS/photonics PhD) and CEO to turn lab-validated detection algorithms into a deployable, reliable product.

What we are looking for

• Strong systems/backend engineering experience, ideally with exposure to real-time or high-throughput data pipelines (signal processing, IoT, telecom, sensor networks, robotics, or similar — not just conventional web-app backends).
• Comfortable across the stack: Python and/or C++ for data processing and AI inference; enough web/cloud experience (or strong ability to learn fast) to ship a real-time dashboard (WebSockets, cloud deployment, basic frontend).
• AI/ML deployment experience — you don't need to design novel models, but you should be comfortable taking a trained model and deploying it efficiently for real-time inference on edge or local hardware.
• 5+ years of engineering experience, with a track record of shipping and owning systems end-to-end, largely unsupervised.
• Startup mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, hardware-in-the-loop debugging, and wearing multiple hats. You'll be writing device interface code one day and fixing a dashboard bug the next.
• Genuine interest in physical/sensing systems — this is deep tech, not conventional SaaS. You should be excited by the physics, not just the code.

Nice to have: experience with DSP, embedded systems, fiber optics, or scientific/industrial instrumentation; experience at an early-stage startup as a founding or early engineer.
