Job Summary:

The Deputy Director, Technical & Engineering is responsible for the technical leadership of all Data Centre projects across Malaysia, with primary accountability for Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) systems and overall coordination of Civil & Structural (C&S) and Architectural disciplines. The role serves as the key technical authority across the portfolio, ensuring engineering excellence, constructability, commissioning readiness, and design integrity in accordance with client requirements and industry standards.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the overall technical direction of Data Centre projects throughout design, construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
• Provide technical leadership for all M&E systems, including power, cooling, fire protection, ELV, BMS, EPMS and other critical infrastructure systems.
• Oversee coordination and integration of M&E, C&S and Architectural works to ensure constructability, operational functionality and efficient project execution.
• Review and approve major technical submissions, design changes, engineering proposals and value engineering initiatives across all projects.
• Identify, assess and mitigate technical, design, constructability, commissioning and operational risks across the portfolio.
• Work closely with clients, consultants, contractors, vendors and authorities to resolve technical matters and facilitate project delivery.
• Provide technical oversight for testing, commissioning, Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and operational readiness activities.
• Champion Data Centre reliability, resilience, maintainability and operational performance objectives across all projects.
• Ensure compliance with client specifications, statutory requirements, quality standards and industry best practices.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentorship to engineering teams across projects.
• Support tender reviews, technical evaluations, value engineering proposals and engineering solutions development for new Data Centre opportunities.
• Promote safety, quality and technical excellence across all project activities.

Requirements:

Education & Certification

• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services, Civil Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• Professional engineering registration/certification an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 15 years relevant experience in Data Centre, mission critical, industrial, or large scale construction projects.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex projects.
• Demonstrated experience in technical leadership, stakeholder management and project delivery, ideally across multiple concurrent projects.

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of Data Centre design, critical M&E infrastructure, commissioning and operational requirements.
• Working knowledge of BIM for design coordination and VDC concepts.
• Familiar with data centre uptime, reliability and resilience standards (e.g. Tier/Uptime Institute frameworks where applicable).

Soft Skills

• Excellent leadership, communication, problem solving and stakeholder management skills.
• Able to operate as the senior technical authority across multiple concurrent projects and teams.
