Senior Drilling Supervisor

Offshore Malaysia

Lead the next phase of a technically demanding drilling programme.

We're looking for an experienced Senior Drilling Supervisor to join a Jack Up offshore Malaysia, supporting the next phase of an established drilling programme.

This is an opportunity for a supervisor who enjoys being close to the operation and taking genuine ownership of the wellsite- someone who can work confidently with the drilling contractor, service companies and onshore team, make sound decisions offshore, and keep the operation moving safely when the well doesn't behave exactly as planned.

The drilling environment

Jack Up is a Keppel FELS B-Class independent-leg jack-up, with approximately 30,000 ft drilling capability and a 400-ft rated operating water depth.

The rig is equipped with a modern NOV drilling package, including:

• 18¾" NOV NXT-M 15,000-psi BOP
• NOV ADS-10T 3,200-hp drawworks
• NOV TDS-8SA top drive
• 3 × NOV 14-P-*************,200-hp mud pumps
• NOV Amphion drilling control system

The preceding campaign demonstrated the level of drilling this operation is capable of delivering.

Recent wells included:

• 1,200 m horizontal reservoir section at approximately 4,866 m MD
• 930 m horizontal reservoir section at approximately 5,473 m MD, achieving an **ERD ratio of 4.1
• A further well with an 800 m horizontal reservoir section at approximately 5,125 m MD

The 5,473 m well was the longest well drilled to date on the field and achieved a 4.1 ERD ratio, reported as the highest ERD ratio achieved in Malaysia. The overall campaign was delivered safely and more than 10% below budget.

The next phase will build on that performance.

Your role

As Senior Drilling Supervisor, you will be the senior drilling representative at the wellsite, responsible for ensuring the drilling programme is executed safely, efficiently and in accordance with the approved plan.

You'll work closely with the Rig Manager, Toolpusher, Driller, directional and well services teams, and the onshore drilling organisation.

More importantly, you'll be expected to own the operation rather than simply observe it.

You will:

• Lead day-to-day drilling operations and provide clear operational direction at the wellsite.
• Ensure the drilling programme is executed safely and efficiently.
• Maintain strong control of well barriers and well-control readiness.
• Personally supervise critical and non-routine operations.
• Coordinate directional drilling, MWD/LWD, mud, cementing, casing/tubular running, logging and other specialist services.
• Supervise drilling, tripping, BHA changes, casing, cementing, pressure testing and other critical well operations.
• Monitor drilling parameters and performance, identifying developing problems before they become significant NPT.
• Review operational plans and challenge them when actual well conditions require a different approach.
• Ensure BOP and pressure-control equipment is correctly configured, tested and ready for critical operations.
• Lead pre-job meetings, risk assessments and SIMOPS reviews.
• Maintain accurate wellsite reporting and operational records.
• Work closely with the onshore drilling and engineering team on look-ahead planning, technical issues and operational changes.
• Provide visible safety leadership and intervene whenever an operation is not being conducted safely or within approved parameters.

The experience that matters

We're looking for someone who has already done this at senior level.

You should have:

• Extensive drilling industry experience with substantial offshore supervisory experience.
• A proven track record as a Senior Drilling Supervisor / Drilling Supervisor.
• Strong jack-up drilling experience.
• Current IWCF Supervisor Level well-control certification, or a recognised equivalent appropriate to the role.
• Strong practical experience with well control, BOP operations, pressure testing and barrier management.
• Proven experience supervising drilling, tripping, BHA, casing and cementing operations.
• Experience working with directional drilling and other specialist well services.
• The judgement and confidence to make appropriate operational decisions offshore.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across the rig, contractor, service-company and onshore teams.

Particularly relevant would be experience with:

• Extended-reach and high-angle drilling
• Long horizontal reservoir sections
• Modern independent-leg jack-ups
• Keppel FELS B-Class or comparable rigs
• 15K BOP systems
• Offshore Peninsular Malaysia
• Development and infill drilling campaigns
• NOV drilling systems or comparable equipment

We're interested in whether you have successfully supervised comparable wells and can demonstrate that you know how to run a demanding jack-up drilling operation.

Who will do well here?

Someone who doesn't need to be told when something isn't right.

Someone who understands the difference between following a drilling programme and actually managing the wellsite.

Someone who is comfortable challenging the operation when necessary, but equally comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Someone who has seen enough wells to recognise problems early, understands the consequences of getting the small things wrong, and knows how to keep a technically demanding operation moving without compromising well integrity or safety.
