Responsibilities

A

Procurement Manager

oversees an organization's acquisition of goods, services, and raw materials

Strategic Sourcing: Plan and develop long-term purchasing strategies to secure the best pricing, quality, and delivery terms.

Vendor Management: Evaluate, select, and monitor reliable suppliers and contractors.

Contract Negotiation: Negotiate commercial terms, pricing structures, and service level agreements (SLAs).

Risk Mitigation: Anticipate market changes or supply chain disruptions and create backup plans.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with finance, legal, and operations teams to align purchases with company budgets and goals.

Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and guide junior buyers and purchasing agents

Education: Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, logistics, or a related field.

Experience: Proven work history as a procurement manager, purchasing agent, or in supply chain operations.

Skills: Strong negotiation tactics, data analysis, financial budgeting, and risk management.

Certifications: Professional credentials like CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or CIPS designation are often preferred

Procurement Managers handle the procurement of goods and services for a company. They manage each part of the supply chain to ensure consistent delivery of goods and services while identifying possible obstacles that may affect productivity Their duties and responsibilities may vary from company to company, but typically include:

  • Developing sound, cost-effective strategies for the purchasing of materials used in the business
  • Maintaining relationships with suppliers while continually scouting for additional vendors
  • Evaluating spending operations while seeking ways to improve and enhance the quality of products purchased and the timeliness of deliveries
  • Communicating with management regularly regarding the efficient flow of goods and services affecting production
  • Conducting cost analyses and setting benchmarks for improvement
  • Developing risk management procedures to mitigate losses in the event of product shortages
  • Supervising a purchasing team and delegating tasks across departments when necessary
  • Working closely with the company legal department to make sure contracts and terms are favorable
