Responsibilities
The Automotive Repair Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of an automotive repair facility, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality vehicle repairs, excellent customer service, and strong financial performance. The role manages technicians and support staff, coordinates repair activities, monitors inventory and equipment, and ensures compliance with safety and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Shop Operations
Manage the day-to-day operations of the automotive repair shop.
Schedule and coordinate vehicle inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs.
Assign jobs to technicians based on skills, workload, and availability.
Monitor repair progress to ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
Ensure proper use and maintenance of shop tools, equipment, and facilities.
Team Management
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate technicians and shop employees.
Establish work schedules and manage staff attendance and productivity.
Provide technical and operational guidance to technicians when required.
Conduct staff meetings and provide coaching to improve performance.
Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a strong customer-service culture.
Customer Service
Communicate with customers regarding vehicle problems, recommended repairs, costs, and completion times.
Review repair estimates and obtain customer approval before work is performed.
Handle customer concerns, complaints, and warranty issues professionally.
Ensure customers receive clear explanations of completed repairs and maintenance recommendations.
Build long-term customer relationships and encourage repeat business.
Financial & Business Management
Monitor daily sales, revenue, expenses, and profitability.
Prepare and review repair estimates, invoices, and work orders.
Control labor costs, parts costs, and other operating expenses.
Monitor sales targets and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Develop strategies to increase shop productivity, revenue, and customer retention.
Review pricing and ensure accurate billing for parts and labor.
Parts & Inventory
Manage parts ordering, receiving, storage, and inventory levels.
Maintain relationships with parts suppliers and negotiate pricing where appropriate.
Ensure parts are correctly matched to vehicles and repair requirements.
Minimize inventory shortages, excess stock, and unnecessary costs.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
Implement quality-control procedures and inspect completed work when necessary.
Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.
Maintain proper records of repairs, inspections, warranties, and other documentation.
Ensure technicians follow safe working procedures and use appropriate protective equipment.
