Senior Manager, Business Development (Malaysia | Renewable Energy)
Our client is a growing renewable energy platform expanding its presence across Malaysia. The company develops and invests in solar and clean energy projects. We are seeking a commercially driven Business Development Manager with strong local market knowledge and the ability to originate, evaluate and progress renewable energy opportunities from initial engagement through to execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate and develop renewable energy opportunities across Malaysia, covering commercial and industrial solar, utility-scale projects and CRESS-related developments.
- Build relationships with corporate customers, landowners, project developers, government stakeholders and other industry partners.
- Identify and evaluate potential acquisitions of operational and development-stage renewable energy assets.
- Lead initial commercial discussions with prospective customers and partners, including the development of suitable energy and PPA structures.
- Assess project feasibility, commercial viability and key development risks in collaboration with internal investment, technical and legal teams.
- Support commercial negotiations, due diligence and transaction execution through to financial close.
- Monitor regulatory developments and identify opportunities arising from Malaysia’s evolving renewable energy framework.
- Support opportunities involving cross-border power and renewable electricity supply between Malaysia and Singapore.
- Maintain an active pipeline and provide clear recommendations on which opportunities the business should prioritise.
- Represent the company at relevant industry events and strengthen its presence within the Malaysian renewable energy market.
Key Requirements
- Approximately 7+ years of business development, project development, investment or commercial experience.
- Relevant experience within renewable energy, power, infrastructure or a closely related sector.
- Strong understanding of the Malaysian energy market, including local regulations, stakeholders and project-development processes.
- Exposure to CRESS, corporate PPAs, project acquisitions or cross-border power would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and negotiate with corporate customers, developers, investors and government-related stakeholders.
- Self-driven and comfortable working within a growing platform.
This role can be based in either Malaysia or Singapore, although Singapore-based candidates must have extensive experience in the Malaysian market.
