JOB SUMMARY
NivaBiz is seeking an experienced Wintel Engineer to work within a team environment and ensure the daily availability of Windows servers supporting systems with significant business or IT impact.
The successful candidate will handle Windows Server operating-system installations, administration, incident resolution, root-cause analysis, infrastructure maintenance, and disaster-recovery activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement Windows-based infrastructure according to business requirements.
- Perform ongoing maintenance and ensure the security and availability of Windows-based infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Windows OS-related incidents and problems according to established processes.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for OS-related service problems as part of problem management.
- Liaise with support vendors regarding maintenance, technical support, and issue resolution.
- Support Windows Server-based systems, system software, clustering software, and system-management agents.
- Analyse historical system usage and identify trends involving CPU, memory, I/O, and storage.
- Develop and implement capacity-improvement plans.
- Assist in developing and maintaining the Technical Disaster Recovery Plan.
- Provide technical support during disasters and system-recovery situations.
- Execute the Technical Disaster Recovery Plan during disaster-recovery exercises and actual recovery situations.
- Set up and manage Windows Active Directory, including Group Policy Objects and user profiles.
- Set up and manage Windows Clustering.
- Set up and manage VMware hosts, including vCenter and virtual machines across Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Support VMware vSphere 4.x and above.
- Set up and manage Microsoft Hyper-V and virtual machines.
- Set up and manage NetBackup and/or Backup Exec, including defining backup policies based on industry standards.
- Set up and manage enterprise-wide Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager, including defining security policies based on industry standards.
- Review system and event logs regularly according to business requirements.
- Manage server OS patching procedures and security hardening.
- Evaluate and review patches before and after installation.
- Perform system backup and restoration according to business requirements.
- Manage and monitor systems using enterprise-monitoring software.
- Conduct operational meetings with customers and relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare and update technical designs, system-build documents, and operational-process documentation.
- Support SAN storage management activities.
REQUIREMENTS
- Working experience within a government agency environment is preferable.
- Good leadership and interpersonal skills, with experience working in large enterprise operational environments.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.
- Experience performing deep-level Windows Server OS troubleshooting and problem resolution.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Cluster is mandatory.
- Documented Windows Server knowledge or certification for Windows Server 2003/2008 is required. Knowledge of Windows Server 2012 will be advantageous.
- Experience installing and operating Windows Server 2003/2008/2012 operating systems, software, and backup solutions.
- Knowledge of server hardware and equipment, including HP, IBM, or Dell servers, will be advantageous.
- Knowledge of HP or IBM SAN storage will be advantageous.
- Familiarity with enterprise antivirus and endpoint-protection software.
- Familiarity with major system-monitoring software and its functionality.
- ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent working experience.
- Automation, scripting, and SAN storage experience will be advantageous.
- Self-motivated, customer-oriented, and able to work effectively as a team member during projects.
