Project Engineer cum Drafter (Steel Structure)

Responsibilities Project & Site Supervision

• Supervise day-to-day site operations for steel structure works.
• Ensure construction activities, including fabrication, erection, welding, bolting, and alignment, are carried out according to approved drawings, method statements, and specifications.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, foremen, workers, and suppliers to ensure smooth project execution and achieve project schedules.
• Assist the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and monitoring project progress.

Drafting & Technical Drawings

• Prepare and revise structural steel shop drawings, fabrication drawings, erection drawings, and as-built drawings using AutoCAD.
• Produce detailed drawings for steel members, connections, plates, brackets, bolts, and other structural steel components.
• Prepare drawing details based on structural drawings, architectural drawings, consultant drawings, and site requirements.
• Review drawings and identify discrepancies, clashes, or missing information before fabrication and installation.
• Update drawings according to consultant comments, site conditions, and approved changes.
• Maintain proper drawing records, revisions, and submission status.
• Coordinate with fabrication teams and site personnel to ensure drawings are practical and accurately implemented on site.

Technical & Quality Control

• Read and interpret structural, architectural, and shop drawings.
• Identify technical discrepancies and raise RFIs when clarification is required.
• Inspect steel fabrication, welding quality, bolt tightening, member alignment, and installation works.
• Ensure compliance with QA/QC requirements, including NDT, torque tests, dimensional checks, and inspection requirements.
• Coordinate inspections with consultants and main contractors.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure site works comply with safety requirements, particularly for lifting operations, steel erection, and working at height.
• Conduct or participate in toolbox meetings and ensure workers follow site safety procedures.
• Report unsafe practices and coordinate corrective actions.

Coordination & Communication

• Liaise with Project Manager, consultants, main contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and fabrication teams on technical and site matters.
• Coordinate drawing submissions, approvals, fabrication schedules, and installation requirements.
• Attend site meetings and technical coordination meetings when required.
• Prepare daily/weekly progress reports, inspection checklists, and relevant project documentation.

Material & Resource Management

• Check steel materials, welding consumables, bolts, and other materials delivered to site.
• Verify materials against approved drawings, specifications, and delivery orders.
• Monitor proper storage, handling, and usage of materials to minimise wastage.
• Assist in planning manpower, equipment, crane operations, and lifting arrangements.

Requirements

• Diploma / Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in construction, preferably in structural steel works.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and able to prepare structural steel shop drawings and fabrication drawings independently.
• Able to read and understand structural, architectural, fabrication, and construction drawings.
• Knowledge of steel fabrication, erection, welding, bolting, and structural steel connections.
• Good site coordination, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Able to coordinate effectively with site teams, subcontractors, consultants, and main contractors.
• Strong sense of responsibility and ability to work independently.

• Diploma / Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

Experience:

• Construction / Structural Steel: 3 years (Preferred)
• AutoCAD / Drafting: 2 years (Preferred)

Pay: $2,800.00 - $3,800.00 per month
