Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Oracle Database Administrator to support business-critical production database environments. The role will focus on maintaining the stability, availability, security and performance of Oracle database platforms while providing operational and technical support for production systems.
You will work closely with application, infrastructure and operations teams to troubleshoot database issues, implement changes, support releases and strengthen database resilience through effective backup, recovery and disaster recovery practices.
Key Responsibilities
Oracle Database Administration
- Administer and support Oracle databases across production environments.
- Monitor database availability, capacity and performance, and proactively address potential issues.
- Investigate database incidents, alerts and performance degradation and drive issues through to resolution.
- Install, configure, maintain and upgrade Oracle database software and related components.
- Manage database storage structures, tablespaces, indexes and database objects.
- Perform database performance analysis and tuning to maintain system stability and efficiency.
Production Support & Incident Management
- Provide Level 2 technical support for Oracle database-related incidents and operational issues.
- Troubleshoot critical database problems and perform root cause analysis.
- Implement corrective and preventive measures to reduce recurring incidents and service disruption.
- Participate in on-call support for business-critical production systems.
Change, Release & Patch Management
- Plan and implement database changes in line with established change-management processes.
- Support application releases, database deployments and schema migration activities.
- Evaluate production-change risks and prepare appropriate rollback procedures.
- Perform Oracle database patching, upgrades and maintenance activities.
Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity
- Manage and maintain database backup and recovery processes.
- Support database failover and switchover activities.
- Conduct regular backup, recovery and disaster recovery testing.
- Maintain database recovery procedures to support business continuity.
Security, Governance & Documentation
- Support database security reviews, audits and compliance activities.
- Ensure database operations comply with security and data-retention requirements.
- Maintain database administration documentation, operational procedures and SOPs.
- Work closely with application, infrastructure and operations teams on database-related activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Hands-on experience in Oracle Database Administration.
- Strong working knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL.
- Good understanding of Oracle database architecture, performance tuning, backup and recovery.
- Experience with database installation, configuration, upgrades, patching and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix, including filesystem administration and Cron jobs.
- Experience supporting production database environments and troubleshooting database incidents.
- Understanding of database backup, disaster recovery, failover and switchover concepts.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Good communication and technical documentation skills.
- Comfortable participating in 24x7 on-call support when required.
