Responsibilities

Job Title: Senior Piping (Materials) Engineer

Permanent/Contract: Contract

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This opportunity supports a major offshore floating production facility project and focuses on piping material engineering across detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, and commissioning phases. The role offers exposure to FPSO design, piping class development, material selection, and multidisciplinary coordination within offshore oil and gas projects. This position will play a key part in ensuring piping materials and related components meet project specifications, international codes and standards, and lifecycle integrity requirements.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or equivalent

Required Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in piping material engineering within the oil and gas industry
  • Proven experience as a Senior Piping Engineer (Materials) in offshore engineering projects
  • Strong experience in FPSO, floating facilities, offshore platforms, LNG, or major EPC/EPCI projects
  • Demonstrated experience in detailed engineering projects
  • Experience in piping class development and material selection
  • Experience supporting procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning activities
  • Ability to demonstrate FPSO project involvement on a CV with clearly highlighted responsibilities and achievements

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of piping material selection and piping class development
  • Experience preparing and reviewing piping material specifications, piping class specifications, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and material take-offs
  • Strong understanding of ASME B31.3, ASME standards, ASTM standards, API standards, NACE requirements, NORSOK standards, and ISO standards
  • Familiarity with corrosion management, material degradation mechanisms, and metallurgy
  • Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, super duplex, nickel alloys, titanium, and corrosion-resistant alloy materials
  • Knowledge of valves, flanges, fittings, piping specialties, and bulk piping materials
  • Understanding of sour service requirements and material selection for corrosive environments
  • Experience supporting vendor technical clarifications and technical evaluation of offers
  • Ability to review vendor documentation related to piping materials, valves, fittings, flanges, special items, and corrosion-resistant alloys
  • Ability to assess material substitution requests, deviations, concessions, and technical queries during engineering, procurement, and fabrication stages
  • Effective multidisciplinary coordination across process, mechanical, piping layout, stress, corrosion, procurement, and construction disciplines
  • Strong technical and analytical capability with excellent problem-solving, stakeholder management, attention to detail, and quality focus
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment with a proactive and solution-oriented approach

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with international engineering consultancies or EPC contractors
  • FPSO topsides engineering design experience
  • Detailed engineering experience for offshore production facilities
  • Experience with material selection for high-pressure and high-temperature systems
  • Exposure to deepwater offshore projects
  • Familiarity with corrosion studies, material selection diagrams, and lifecycle integrity management
  • Familiarity with engineering design tools and material management systems
