Recently, the client is expanding its design resources and setting up its 6th IC design center to be located in Suzhou, China, about an hour away from Shanghai. This new center comes with an investment plan of approximately US$10 million and with a strength of 35 engineers over the next 3 years. The design center will focus in Integrated Circuit design in SOC (System on chip) with CPU, Memories of Flash, RAM and ROM, and other functional IP blocks to complete a system on a single chip. The ChallengeOne of the main competition factor among the Semiconductor Companies is the speed and capability to bring new products that are highly integrated with all the functions for the specific application, to the market in a timely manner. Therefore the IC design implements SOC design method to integrate CPU(s), application specific functional modules of both digital and analog circuits, and many types of memories. In order to reduce design cycle and achieving high quality, the design method adopts the re-use. Which means reuse the proven CPU's, modules, and memories to design a SOC product. The proprietary IP knowledge and know-how becomes a key factor of distinguishing one product from another from different design organizations. We also know that in a single SOC chip, most of its area is covered by the memories that the system needs, and likely the flash memory takes up the most area. The client is the world leader in flash memory technology and is further investing in this new design center to explore the existing vast knowledge base to design the most cost effective SOC products for the future markets.
