You will work closely with shipowners, charterers, operators, brokers, and other market participants to negotiate freight terms, support fixtures, and provide market intelligence across regional and international shipping markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor global and regional freight markets, vessel availability, cargo flows, freight rates, and shipping trends.
  • Analyse market movements, trade routes, vessel positions, and supply and demand factors to identify commercial opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with shipowners, charterers, operators, cargo interests, brokers, and other industry counterparties.
  • Source and evaluate vessel and cargo requirements and identify suitable chartering opportunities.
  • Negotiate freight rates, voyage terms, time charter arrangements, and other commercial terms with relevant counterparties.
  • Support the negotiation and conclusion of charter party agreements, fixtures, and contracts.
  • Develop commercial opportunities across relevant vessel segments and shipping routes.
  • Provide clients and counterparties with timely freight market information, rate indications, and relevant market insights.
  • Maintain regular communication with owners, charterers, brokers, and clients throughout the enquiry and fixture process.
  • Coordinate with internal broking and operations teams to ensure smooth progression from enquiry through fixture and post-fixture activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of freight enquiries, fixtures, market information, client interactions, and commercial activities.
  • Track vessel positions, cargo requirements, freight rates, and market developments using relevant shipping and market information platforms.
  • Support voyage economics, freight calculations, and commercial comparisons when evaluating potential fixtures.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the company’s client and counterparty network across Asia Pacific and international markets.
  • Represent the company professionally at shipping meetings, client visits, industry events, and relevant maritime networking activities.
  • Contribute to regular market reports, commercial updates, and management information.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Business, Economics, Logistics, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 3–7 years of experience in freight trading, shipbroking, chartering, shipping, or a related maritime commercial function.
  • Good understanding of freight markets, vessel chartering, shipping routes, and international maritime trade.
  • Experience working with shipowners, charterers, operators, brokers, or cargo interests will be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with voyage charters, time charters, charter party terms, freight calculations, and fixture processes.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify and evaluate freight market opportunities.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, networking, and relationship management skills.
  • Good analytical ability with experience interpreting freight rates, vessel availability, cargo flows, and market information.
  • Experience with dry bulk, tanker, container, or other shipping segments will be considered depending on business requirements.
  • Familiarity with freight derivatives, FFAs, or freight risk management will be an advantage.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple enquiries and commercial discussions simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced international shipping environment.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.

Working Arrangement

  • Full-time position based in Singapore.
  • Work within an independent shipbroking company serving the international maritime transportation sector.
  • Collaborate with shipowners, charterers, operators, cargo interests, brokers, and maritime service providers.
  • Focus on freight market analysis, chartering opportunities, commercial negotiations, and client relationship development.
  • Regular exposure to regional and international shipping markets and trade routes.
  • Office-based role with client meetings, industry events, and occasional business travel when required.
  • Work closely with commercial, broking, and operations teams throughout the chartering and fixture process.
