Job Description
Responsibilities
A great opportunity for a commercially minded HR leader who loves being close to the business, enjoys working with people and understands what it takes to make a successful retail operation tick.
We're working with a leading international consumer brand that is looking for an experienced Director of HR & Education to lead its people agenda across Malaysia and Singapore.
This is a genuinely interesting opportunity for someone who wants to be more than just the head of HR.
You'll sit on a small, collaborative leadership team, report directly to the General Manager for both markets and play an important role in shaping how the business operates, grows and develops its people.
The business has around 30 stores across Malaysia and Singapore, with approximately 700 employees across its retail and corporate operations.
It's a hands-on, commercially driven environment where the people agenda is central to business performance.
The opportunity
You'll take overall responsibility for HR and Education across both countries, leading an experienced team of HR Business Partners and training professionals.
It's a broad role covering everything from business partnering, talent and succession planning to employee relations, organisational development, reward and retail training.
But this isn't about sitting in an office developing HR policies that nobody reads.
You'll be working closely with the General Manager, Retail Director and wider leadership team to understand what's happening across the business, what challenges store managers are facing and how the people function can genuinely help improve performance.
You'll be expected to:
Who we're looking for
We're particularly interested in speaking with senior HR leaders who have spent their careers in businesses where people, customers and commercial performance are closely connected.
You might come from retail, hospitality, food and beverage, or another large frontline service business where managing people across multiple locations is part of everyday life.
What matters most is that you've led an HR function at country level, understand the realities of running a people-intensive business and are comfortable operating as part of a senior leadership team.
You'll ideally bring:
Experience working across Singapore would certainly be useful, particularly knowledge of local employment regulations and practices, but strong Malaysian experience is the priority.
We're not necessarily looking for someone from a luxury brand or someone with a particular company name on their CV.
We're looking for someone who knows their craft, understands business and can build credibility with everyone from the General Manager to a store manager.
Why consider it?
For the right person, this is an opportunity to take on a highly visible regional leadership role within a well-established international business.
You'll have a seat at the leadership table, genuine ownership of the people agenda and the chance to influence both business performance and employee development across two important markets.
There's also the opportunity to work within a wider international HR network, with access to regional expertise, established development programmes and longer-term career opportunities.
The package will include a competitive base salary and a performance-related annual bonus.
I
f you're a commercially minded HR leader based in Malaysia who enjoys the pace and challenges of a frontline business, we'd be very interested in having a conversation.
