Job Description

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification required; a Diploma in Culinary Arts or Baking is preferred.

  • 1-2 years of proven experience as a Baker or in a similar role, preferably in a café or restaurant setting.

  • Proficiency in various baking techniques, including dough preparation, cake making, and pastry production.

  • Skilled in cake decorating, with an eye for detail and creativity in presentation.

  • Ability to follow recipes accurately and consistently produce high-quality baked goods.

  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards, ensuring a clean and organized work environment.

  • Good understanding of English and Bahasa Malaysia to communicate effectively with team members and customers.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by the café's operational needs.

  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift heavy ingredients, and perform repetitive tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior bakers in the preparation and production of a variety of baked goods, including breads, pastries, cakes, and cookies, following established recipes and quality standards.

  • Measure, mix, and prepare doughs, batters, and fillings accurately, ensuring consistency in taste and texture.

  • Operate and maintain baking equipment such as ovens, mixers, proofers, and dough sheeters, ensuring they are clean and in good working order.

  • Monitor baking processes, adjusting temperatures and times as needed to ensure optimal results and prevent burning or undercooking.

  • Decorate cakes and pastries using various techniques, including piping, glazing, and fondant application, to meet aesthetic requirements.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work station, adhering to strict food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times.

  • Assist with inventory management, including receiving ingredients, stocking shelves, and reporting any low stock levels to the head baker.

  • Learn and apply new baking techniques and recipes as directed by the head baker to expand the café's dessert and pastry offerings.
