Job Description

Requirements

1. Education & Academic Background

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree is preferred (backgrounds in core academic fields such as Science and Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Information Engineering, etc. are highly advantageous); candidates must possess at least a full-time Bachelor’s degree.
  • Strong understanding of the global academic publishing ecosystem, with proficient knowledge of major academic databases such as SCI, EI, and Scopus, including search methods and retrieval logic.

2. Work Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in proactive sales, business development (BD), key account management, or overseas market expansion, with at least 1–2 years of team management experience.
  • Candidates with backgrounds in academic publishing, university B2B partnerships, knowledge services, overseas education consulting, or high-value consulting industries will be prioritized.

3. Core Competencies

  • Excellent Team Management & Coaching Skills: Ability to establish clear team KPIs and effectively improve overall team conversion rates and cohesion through sales script optimization and standardized processes (SOPs).
  • Strong Business Development (BD) & Negotiation Skills: Possess strong market insight and the ability to independently develop and secure B2B partnerships with universities, research institutions, and academic organizations.
  • Data Analysis & Decision-Making Skills: Proficient in using sales funnel analysis to evaluate team outreach rates, response rates, and conversion rates; able to identify issues through data analysis and adjust sales strategies promptly.
  • End-to-End Operations & Ability to Work Under Pressure: Familiar with the complete lifecycle management of academic publishing, from manuscript acquisition to peer review. Goal-oriented and responsible for the team’s Article Processing Charge (APC) collection and revenue targets.

Responsibilities

Business Development Manager (Author Acquisition Team)

We are seeking a proactive and target-driven Business Development Manager to lead our Author Acquisition Team. In this strategic role, you will be responsible for driving individual sales performance, leading team growth, developing new B2B and institutional partnerships, and expanding our global academic market presence.

You will oversee strategic outreach initiatives targeting researchers, professors, and scholars worldwide, encouraging them to publish their scientific and academic research papers in our indexed journals.

1. Team Leadership & Performance Management

Team Guidance & Coaching

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of Acquisition Specialists to achieve and exceed monthly and quarterly manuscript submission and revenue targets.

KPI Tracking & Performance Improvement

  • Monitor team performance metrics, including outreach volume, response rates, conversion pipelines, and sales progress. Identify performance gaps and implement effective improvement strategies.

Workflow Optimization

  • Develop, standardize, and optimize outreach scripts, email templates, and sales processes to improve team efficiency and maximize conversion rates.
2. Proactive Sales & New Account Acquisition

Strategic Market Expansion

  • Develop and execute proactive sales strategies to penetrate new academic disciplines, research fields, institutional markets, and international regions.

Institutional Account Development

  • Identify, engage, and secure high-value B2B opportunities, including university partnerships, research institution collaborations, and bulk journal submission agreements.

High-Value Negotiation & Deal Closing

  • Handle complex client discussions, address concerns, negotiate with senior researchers, professors, and institutional representatives, and successfully close strategic partnerships.

3. Lead Generation & Campaign Strategy

Data-Driven Lead Generation

  • Guide the team in utilizing global academic databases, including Scopus, EI, and SCI, to conduct targeted data mining and extract qualified researcher leads to build a strong sales pipeline.

Campaign Planning & Execution

  • Design and oversee large-scale, targeted email marketing campaigns to increase researcher engagement, improve response rates, and maintain a healthy acquisition pipeline.

4. Operational & Revenue Management

End-to-End Author Journey Management

  • Oversee the complete author acquisition lifecycle, from initial manuscript submission and peer-review progress tracking to final publication.

APC Revenue Management

  • Take ownership of the team’s Article Processing Charge (APC) collection performance by monitoring payment workflows, ensuring timely follow-ups, and achieving revenue targets.

5. Database Management & Management Reporting

Data Accuracy & CRM Management

  • Ensure the team maintains accurate and well-organized records of global scholar leads, communication histories, client profiles, and engagement activities.

Performance Reporting & Strategic Insights

  • Analyze sales pipeline data, conversion trends, and market insights to provide actionable reports and recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making.
