Job Description

Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience in a retail supermarket or food preparation environment.

  • Proven experience leading or supervising a team.

  • Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and health & safety practices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Desirable

  • Experience specifically within RTE, fresh foods, deli, or food-to-go operations.

  • Food safety certification (e.g., Level 2 or higher).

  • Strong commercial awareness, including waste and margin control.

Personal Attributes

  • Proactive, organized, and detail-oriented.

  • Confident leader with a hands-on approach.

  • Customer-focused with a passion for fresh food quality.

  • Flexible to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays as required.

Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead day-to-day RTE department operations, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to company standards.

  • Ensure consistent availability of fresh, high-quality RTE products throughout trading hours.

  • Monitor production planning to meet customer demand while minimizing waste.

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations at all times.

  • Maintain accurate records for temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and food safety documentation.

  • Lead by example in safe food handling and allergen control procedures.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise, coach, and motivate RTE team members to achieve individual and departmental goals.

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management of team members.

  • Plan and manage staff rotas to ensure adequate coverage and productivity.

Customer Experience

  • Deliver excellent customer service by ensuring attractive product presentation and prompt service.

  • Handle customer queries, complaints, and feedback professionally and efficiently.

  • Drive a customer-focused culture within the RTE team.

Stock, Sales & Cost Control

  • Manage stock levels, ordering, rotation, and date control in line with company procedures.

  • Monitor sales performance, waste, and margins, taking corrective action where required.

  • Support promotional activity and product launches within the RTE department.

Standards & Merchandising

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, layout, and visual merchandising in the RTE area.

  • Ensure displays are appealing, correctly priced, and compliant with brand and legal standards.
