Role Description

The NLP Engineer / Computational Linguist / Language AI Researcher develops and evaluates systems that analyse, retrieve, or generate human language. Responsibilities include preparing language datasets, designing evaluations, investigating errors, and documenting how systems perform across languages, domains, and user tasks.

The NLP Engineer builds and deploys language processing pipelines. The Computational Linguist designs annotation guidelines and analyses linguistic patterns and ambiguities. The Language AI Researcher develops new methods and tests them against established baselines through reproducible experiments.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Relevant experience in natural language processing, language data, machine learning, or language technology research.
• Ability to prepare and validate text datasets and assess their coverage, quality, and limitations.
• Understanding of language model evaluation, error analysis, and risks such as data leakage and bias.
• Ability to document methods, results, and limitations clearly for technical and nontechnical audiences.
• For engineering positions, proficiency in Python and experience building, testing, deploying, and monitoring NLP models or services.
• For computational linguist positions, knowledge of syntax, semantics, or morphology, with experience developing annotation guidelines and resolving disagreements between annotators.
• For research positions, experience designing controlled experiments, comparing methods, and communicating original findings; postgraduate research training is advantageous.
