About Rhino Partners

Rhino Partners is a technology consulting and solutions provider specialising in software engineering, cloud technologies, data engineering, and digital transformation. We partner with organisations across the public and private sectors to deliver scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our team and support the development of enterprise-grade data platforms and solutions for a major public sector project.

About the Role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable data architectures and pipelines that support analytics, data science, and digital products.

You will work with cross-functional teams to build reliable, secure, and high-performance data systems, while contributing to architectural decisions, engineering standards, and technical best practices.

This role requires strong hands-on expertise in Python, SQL, cloud data platforms, and enterprise data engineering, alongside the ability to provide technical guidance and drive engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and operate scalable data architectures and pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and delivery across multiple source systems.
  • Build robust data models and reusable data capabilities to support applications, analytics, and data science use cases.
  • Develop and optimise data solutions using modern data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouse architectures.
  • Ensure data systems meet high standards of reliability, security, performance, observability, and maintainability.
  • Evaluate data technologies and architectural approaches, recommend appropriate solutions, and contribute to technical design decisions.
  • Implement software engineering best practices, including automated testing, code reviews, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Establish and maintain data quality, monitoring, and troubleshooting processes for production data systems.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers, Product Managers, Data Scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver data-driven solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership through design reviews, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, with proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Proven hands-on experience designing, building, and operating complex production data systems.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture, data engineering patterns, and best practices.
  • Experience developing data pipelines and data models using modern data engineering approaches.
  • Solid understanding of data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouse architectures.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data platforms such as Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, Google BigQuery, or equivalent.
  • Experience with data orchestration, transformation, and modelling tools and frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of production engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, troubleshooting, and data quality.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

Good to Have
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow or equivalent.
  • Experience with data transformation and analytics engineering frameworks such as dbt.
  • Hands-on experience with distributed data processing technologies such as Apache Spark.
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS data services and cloud infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
  • Knowledge of data observability, metadata management, data catalogues, and data lineage.
  • Experience working with sensitive or regulated data, particularly within public sector or government environments.

Why Join Us?

At Rhino Partners, you will have the opportunity to work on meaningful digital transformation projects, collaborate with experienced technology professionals, and contribute to the development of enterprise-scale data solutions.

We offer a collaborative environment that encourages technical excellence, continuous learning, and professional growth.
