Role Description
The Character Artist / Environment Artist / 3D Generalist creates 3D assets that support the visual style and technical requirements of games, animation, or other digital productions. Depending on the assigned specialization, the role involves developing characters, building environments and props, or contributing across modeling, texturing, shading, lighting, and rendering.
The successful candidate will collaborate with concept artists, designers, animators, and technical teams to turn visual concepts into production-ready assets. This position also incorporates feedback, maintains consistent quality, and optimizes assets for the intended platform and production pipeline.
Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in digital art, animation, game art, visual effects, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Relevant experience in character art, environment art, or general 3D production, depending on the assigned specialization.
- A portfolio demonstrating relevant work and clearly identifying individual contributions.
- Proficiency in 3D software such as Maya, Blender, or 3ds Max.
- Experience with modeling, UV mapping, texturing, materials, and shading.
- For character art positions, strong understanding of anatomy, proportion, sculpting, and deformation-friendly topology.
- For environment art positions, understanding of composition, scale, modular construction, and environmental storytelling.
- For generalist positions, ability to work across multiple production stages, including asset creation, lighting, and rendering.
- Familiarity with tools such as ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter, or Substance 3D Designer is an advantage.
- Understanding of asset optimization, polygon budgets, texture resolution, and production pipeline requirements.
- Familiarity with game engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity is an advantage for real-time projects.
- Strong visual judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain an established art style.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to incorporate feedback, collaborate across teams, and meet production deadlines.
