Responsibilities

Company Description The Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), a research institute under the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), develops advanced manufacturing technologies and talent to strengthen Singapore’s manufacturing competitiveness. SIMTech works closely with multinational corporations and local enterprises across sectors such as precision engineering, medtech, aerospace, automotive, marine, oil and gas, electronics, semiconductor, and logistics. With over 450 researchers, the institute focuses on industrial, intellectual, and human capital development for the manufacturing ecosystem. Its key initiatives include industry-focused technology development projects, technology and knowledge transfer through training and licensing, and manpower sharing programs that provide companies with access to R&D expertise.

Role Description As an Engineering Intern at A*STAR SIMTech, you will support research and development projects that advance manufacturing technologies and processes. In this full-time, on-site role based in Singapore, you will assist in designing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing technical documentation and reports. You may contribute to prototyping, testing, and validating engineering solutions under the guidance of experienced researchers and engineers. The role also involves collaborating with project teams, participating in technical discussions, and helping to maintain laboratories, equipment, and project records.

  • Comfort with data collection and analysis using common tools (e.g., spreadsheets, basic statistical methods, or engineering software); familiarity with programming or simulation tools is an advantage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to document work clearly and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks, and a proactive approach to learning in a research and industrial environment.
  • Strong interest in advanced manufacturing technologies and willingness to work in laboratory and workshop settings.
  • Previous internship, project work, or coursework related to manufacturing, automation, robotics, or industrial engineering is beneficial.
