Responsibilities

RHB is seeking an accomplished enterprise technology leader to shape and drive the IT strategy supporting its Investment Banking business.

This is a high-impact leadership role with accountability for technology strategy, application architecture direction, operational excellence and the delivery of resilient, cost-effective technology capabilities that enable business performance and growth.

Working closely with the Investment Banking CEO, senior executives and Group Technology leadership, you will serve as a trusted technology partner, translating complex technology considerations into strategic business decisions while leading a high-performing team of IT professionals. The position offers significant executive visibility, ownership of a business-critical technology portfolio and opportunities for broader leadership progression within Group Technology.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technology Strategy & Business Partnership

  • Develop and execute the IT strategy, technology architecture direction and roadmap aligned with Investment Banking's business objectives and the Group's technology priorities.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior business leadership, translating complex technology matters into commercially relevant insights, recommendations and investment decisions.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to identify technology requirements, optimise existing capabilities and deliver reliable, scalable and cost-effective solutions.
  • Evaluate emerging technology opportunities and drive targeted enhancements and innovation that strengthen business performance and operational efficiency.

2. Enterprise Application & Technology Leadership

  • Provide strategic and operational oversight of Investment Banking application domains spanning Front Office, Middle Office and Back Office functions, including capital markets, trading, risk management, settlement and related banking platforms.
  • Lead application delivery, integration, production support and continuous improvement to ensure business-critical systems remain reliable, secure and fit for purpose.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Project Management, IT Infrastructure, IT Security and other Group Technology functions to ensure effective end-to-end technology delivery.
  • Exercise hands-on leadership and sound technical judgment in addressing complex application challenges, resolving cross-functional dependencies and ensuring timely execution.

3. Technology Governance, Risk & Operational Resilience

  • Champion technology resilience, service reliability, risk management and a strong compliance culture across the Investment Banking technology environment.
  • Strengthen incident management and service recovery capabilities, working closely with IT Infrastructure, IT Security and relevant teams to resolve critical incidents and minimise business disruption.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, including BNM's Risk Management in Technology (RMiT) policy, Securities Commission Malaysia requirements and internal technology governance standards.
  • Exercise proactive judgment in identifying technology risks, addressing regulatory demands and making timely decisions on critical operational matters.

4. Financial, Resource & Vendor Management

  • Define and manage IT capital and operating expenditure (Capex and Opex) for relevant applications and technology platforms, in collaboration with Group IT Finance and Vendor/Contract Management teams.
  • Develop strategic workforce and resource plans to optimise technology capabilities, capacity allocation and operational effectiveness.
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with technology vendors and service providers to strengthen service delivery, innovation and cost efficiency.
  • Ensure effective utilisation of technology investments, resources and external partnerships to deliver sustainable business value.

5. Enterprise Leadership & Stakeholder Influence

  • Build and lead a high-performing IT organisation through effective organisation design, talent development, coaching, empowerment and succession planning.
  • Establish trusted relationships with C-suite executives, Group Management Committee members and Board-level stakeholders, influencing technology decisions through strong commercial acumen and executive communication.
  • Foster a collaborative, results-oriented and customer-centric culture aligned with RHB's values, promoting accountability, continuous learning and innovation.
  • Facilitate alignment across technology teams, proactively managing competing priorities, resolving conflicts and strengthening cross-functional collaboration.
  • Contribute actively to Group Technology leadership forums, shaping enterprise-wide priorities and advancing the Group's overall technology capabilities.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in enterprise technology, banking IT or technology consulting, including at least 5 years in enterprise technology leadership roles, with demonstrated accountability for technology strategy, complex application environments and senior stakeholder engagement.
  • Proven experience in developing technology strategies, providing application architecture direction and managing complex, business-critical enterprise application environments.
  • Strong exposure to banking or financial services technology, preferably within Investment Banking, Wholesale Banking, Capital Markets or related domains.
  • Experience overseeing application delivery, systems integration, production operations and technology service management within complex organisations.
  • Demonstrated success in leading senior technical teams, managing technology budgets and building strategic relationships with executive stakeholders and external partners.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline. Relevant postgraduate qualifications or professional certifications would be advantageous.

Leadership & Technical Competencies

  • Strong understanding of enterprise application architecture, systems integration and technology operating models, with an appreciation of Front Office, Middle Office and Back Office banking application domains.
  • Sound knowledge of technology governance, cybersecurity, operational resilience and regulatory requirements relevant to financial institutions.
  • Strong strategic thinking, commercial acumen and the ability to translate technology complexity into clear business recommendations.
  • Proven executive presence, stakeholder influencing and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently at C-suite and Board level.
  • A pragmatic, hands-on and decisive leadership style, combining strategic perspective with operational accountability.
  • Strong people leadership capabilities, with a track record of developing talent, driving performance and fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
