Job Description

Responsibilities

Our client is an established organisation within the energy and commodities sector, with a strong presence across the global oil and refined-products markets.

They are seeking a Refining Analyst to join their market analysis team. This role will cover the refining segment of the global oil supply chain, providing short- and longer-term views on refinery capacity, product yields, refining margins and product balances.

You will work closely with internal commercial stakeholders and fellow market analysts to translate market fundamentals into practical insights that support business and strategic decisions.

Responsibilities:

  • Track global refinery capacity developments, including new commissioning schedules, refinery closures, maintenance and outage plans, and maintain an accurate global refinery database.
  • Analyse refining economics and develop forecasts for refinery margins, product yields and refinery output, taking into account technical and operational constraints.
  • Monitor crude and refined-products market developments and assess their implications for product balances and refinery demand.
  • Prepare regular market outlooks, written reports and presentations on key refining-market trends and changes.
  • Analyse developments across biofuels, alternative fuels and the wider energy transition, including their longer-term impact on the refining market.
  • Support scenario analysis and ad hoc research projects for commercial, origination and asset-related stakeholders.
  • Continue to refine research methodologies and forecasting approaches as market dynamics evolve.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience in oil refining, refined-products market analysis, energy consultancy or a related research environment.
  • Strong understanding of global fuel-product markets, including refined products, biofuels and alternative fuels.
  • Experience using Linear Programming models to forecast refinery product yields would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn complex market data into clear conclusions.
  • Good communication and presentation skills, with confidence engaging a range of stakeholders.
  • A collaborative team player who is also comfortable working independently.
