Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced engineer to take ownership of complex technology deployments involving artificial intelligence, software systems, data, and enterprise environments.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can move comfortably between technical architecture, software development, systems integration, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement. You will work closely with organisations to understand their technical and operational challenges, design practical solutions, build and integrate those solutions, and see them through to reliable production use.

The work is highly varied. You may spend part of the day developing or debugging software and the next working with senior technology or business stakeholders to determine the right technical approach.

Success in this role requires more than strong engineering skills. You will need sound technical judgement, commercial awareness, adaptability, and the ability to take ownership when requirements are incomplete or the path forward is unclear.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Delivery

• Lead technical delivery from initial problem definition through implementation, deployment, and subsequent optimisation.
• Design and develop production-grade software, AI-enabled applications, automated workflows, and supporting services.
• Build integrations between modern applications and established enterprise technology environments.
• Work with APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, enterprise applications, communications technologies, and other connected systems as required by the solution.
• Assess unfamiliar technical environments and determine practical approaches to integration and deployment.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, including problems arising in live or partially controlled environments.
• Design solutions that account for security, privacy, infrastructure, reliability, and other operational constraints.
• Make appropriate architectural and implementation trade-offs based on technical requirements and desired business outcomes.

Problem Definition & Solution Design

• Work directly with stakeholders to understand operational processes, technical constraints, and underlying business problems.
• Convert ambiguous or evolving requirements into clear technical approaches.
• Identify opportunities where automation, AI, software, or improved system design can create measurable value.
• Challenge assumptions and proposed requirements when an alternative technical approach is likely to produce a better outcome.
• Prioritise competing technical problems according to impact, urgency, feasibility, and broader objectives.
• Develop solutions where established patterns or existing playbooks may not be sufficient.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as a senior technical partner to engineering, technology, and business stakeholders.
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Establish credibility with senior decision-makers and provide informed recommendations on technical direction.
• Balance customer or stakeholder expectations with engineering realities, delivery constraints, and long-term maintainability.
• Take accountability for outcomes rather than limiting responsibility to a defined technical component.

Product & Engineering Contribution

• Capture recurring technical patterns, lessons, and implementation approaches from individual deployments.
• Translate field experience into reusable engineering practices, solution patterns, and product improvements.
• Collaborate with broader engineering and product functions to improve the underlying technology and deployment experience.
• Contribute to the development of effective approaches for implementing AI-enabled technology in complex organisations.

Technical Profile

You should have a strong foundation in software engineering and demonstrated experience delivering production systems.

Relevant experience may include:

• Strong programming and software engineering fundamentals.
• Building and operating production applications or services.
• Designing integrations involving APIs, databases, enterprise applications, or established technology environments.
• Working with cloud platforms, distributed systems, data-intensive applications, or AI/ML technologies.
• Developing or integrating AI-enabled applications, automated workflows, or intelligent systems.
• Investigating and resolving complex production or integration issues.
• Making architectural decisions across multiple technical components.
• Working effectively within infrastructure, security, privacy, and operational constraints.
• Quickly understanding unfamiliar codebases, systems, architectures, and technical environments.
