Job Description

Responsibilities

A Software Test Manager in the banking domain carries a dual mandate: delivering rigorous quality assurance for complex financial systems while navigating the strict regulatory and compliance requirements inherent to the industry. Unlike general IT testing roles, this position demands specific expertise in banking workflows—such as payments, core banking, or cards—and the ability to govern testing executed by internal teams and external vendors across multiple global locations.

Job Description: Software Test Manager (Banking Domain)

Job Title: Software Test Manager / Test Lead – Banking & Financial Services
Department: Quality Assurance / Technology
Reports To: Head of QA / Delivery Director

Role Summary

The Software Test Manager is accountable for the end-to-end testing strategy and execution for banking applications and transformation projects. You will lead a team of testers (and often coordinate external vendor test teams) to ensure that software releases—ranging from core banking upgrades to regulatory patches—meet functional, performance, and security standards before production deployment. The role requires a balance of hands-on test management, stakeholder governance, and deep domain knowledge in financial services.

Key Responsibilities

1. Test Strategy & Governance

  • Define and own the Master Test Plan and Test Strategy for assigned banking portfolios, covering System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and End-to-End (E2E) testing.
  • Establish quality gates and entry/exit criteria aligned with banking release management and change management protocols.
  • Ensure testing methodologies comply with internal audit requirements and regulatory standards (e.g., data privacy, financial reporting controls).
  • Govern testing service providers and vendor deliverables, ensuring adherence to SLA/KPI targets and contractual testing scope.

2. Domain-Specific Test Execution

  • Oversee test design and execution for critical banking modules such as Payments (e.g., ISO 20022, SWIFT), Core Banking, Cards, Secured Loans, or Wealth Management.
  • Manage data migration and conversion testing, ensuring accuracy in financial balances and customer records during system upgrades.
  • Coordinate non-functional testing (performance, security, resilience) in collaboration with specialized engineering teams.
  • Validate that test cases adequately cover regulatory reporting requirements and transaction integrity.

3. Team Leadership & Resource Management

  • Lead, mentor, and allocate tasks to a team of Test Leads and Test Engineers, fostering a quality-first culture.
  • Manage resource capacity planning across multiple concurrent projects, balancing manual and automated testing efforts.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide technical guidance, and support the professional development of team members.

4. Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Act as the primary point of contact for testing status, risks, and defect escalations for business owners, project managers, and technology leads.
  • Produce and present clear quality metrics (defect leakage, test coverage, execution progress) to senior management and steering committees.
  • Facilitate defect triage meetings, prioritizing fixes based on business risk and regulatory impact.

5. Continuous Improvement & Automation

  • Drive test automation initiatives to improve regression testing efficiency, particularly for repetitive banking workflows.
  • Integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines where applicable, aligning with the bank’s DevOps transformation goals.
  • Maintain a knowledge repository of banking-specific test scenarios and lessons learned.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: Typically 6–10+ years in software testing/QA, with at least 3–5 years in a Test Manager or Test Lead role within the banking or financial services sector.
  • Domain Knowledge: Proven experience testing Core Banking, Payments, Cards, or Retail/Corporate Banking applications. Familiarity with banking transaction lifecycles and financial data structures is essential.
  • Methodologies: Strong hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum and Waterfall/Hybrid delivery models, as banking projects often involve regulated phase-gates alongside agile sprints.
  • Tools: Proficiency with JIRA, Confluence, and test management tools (e.g., ALM/Quality Center, TestRail, Xray). Exposure to automation tools (Selenium, TOSCA, UFT) is expected for oversight purposes.
  • Vendor Management: Experience managing testing delivered by third-party service providers or system integrators in a multi-vendor environment.
  • Certifications: ISTQB Advanced Test Manager or equivalent is strongly preferred. PMP or TMMi awareness is advantageous.

Key Competencies

  • Regulatory Awareness: Understanding of the compliance implications of testing failures in banking (e.g., failed transactions, reporting errors).
  • Analytical Rigor: Ability to break down complex banking requirements into traceable test scenarios.
  • Crisis Management: Capability to remain composed under pressure during critical release windows or production incidents.
  • Cross-Cultural Communication: Experience working with distributed teams across time zones, often required for global banking hubs.

Pay: RM8,300.00 - RM13,000.00 per month

Benefits:

  • Health insurance
  • Maternity leave
  • Opportunities for promotion
  • Professional development

Work Location: In person
