Job Description

Responsibilities

Company Description Eric Tan, a member of Evalon Group Law Practice focused on high-stakes disputes involving Malaysia’s public listed companies and multinational corporations. The firm concentrates exclusively on dispute resolution, including litigation, mediation, insolvency, and complex commercial disagreements. This specialization allows clients to work with practitioners who deal with contentious matters every working day, rather than a generalist practice. Eric Tan is technologically savvy, using modern legal technology to enhance accuracy, streamline workflows, and deliver faster, more seamless services.

Role Description This is a full-time Lawyer role based in WP Kuala Lumpur, offered on a hybrid arrangement with some work-from-home flexibility. The Lawyer will handle a portfolio of dispute-focused matters, including drafting pleadings and submissions, preparing opinions, and managing case strategy for litigation, mediation, and insolvency-related work. Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing complex commercial issues, reviewing and drafting contracts and corporate documents, conducting legal research, and advising clients on risk, exposure, and dispute resolution options. The role also involves collaborating with other practitioners, attending court and arbitral hearings, engaging with regulators and counterparties where necessary, and maintaining high standards of professional ethics and client service. The Lawyer is expected to use legal technology tools to manage documents, deadlines, and workflows efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in legal research, statutory and case law analysis, and application of legal principles to complex commercial disputes.
  • Proficiency in drafting pleadings, submissions, legal opinions, contracts, and other transactional or dispute-related documents.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in litigation, arbitration, mediation, insolvency, and corporate or commercial dispute resolution.
  • Comfort with legal technology platforms, document management systems, and digital workflows to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present arguments clearly to courts, tribunals, and clients.
  • Strong client management, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities, with sound judgment and professionalism.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B or equivalent) and admission to practice law in Malaysia, or eligibility for admission within a defined timeline.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, manage multiple matters concurrently, and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Prior experience in a disputes-focused or commercial practice is an advantage; familiarity with public listed companies or multinationals is a plus.
