Role Purpose:
Lead the shaping and delivery of fit-for-purpose technology solutions across Asia, combining solution architecture, application architecture and hands-on technical leadership. The role partners with business and technology stakeholders to evaluate vendor products, define end-to-end architectures, and guide in-house digital applications from discovery through production, aligned with global standards and regional needs. This is a combined solution architecture and application architecture role for an early-stage regional technology journey. This is a direct, full-time AVP role based in Singapore and requires periodic travel to regional offices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Business engagement and solution shaping: Partner with business stakeholders to understand the business requirements, and translate ambiguous business needs into clear solution options, target-state designs, technical requirements, delivery estimates, risks, and phased roadmaps.
- Vendor and product evaluation: Assess vendor products, SaaS platforms, system integrators, and technology proposals against business fit, architecture, integration, security, data, scalability, supportability, implementation effort, and total cost of ownership.
- Solution and enterprise alignment: Develop end-to-end solution architectures spanning applications, APIs, integrations, data, identity, cloud services, security, infrastructure, and operational support. Ensure regional solutions align with global and international architecture principles, cybersecurity standards, data governance, technology roadmaps, and approved platforms.
- Hands-on application architecture and delivery: Lead the architecture and technical design of in-house digital applications, portals, workflow solutions, APIs, and integration services from discovery through production. Roll up your sleeves and remain hands-on, designing and developing prototypes, reference solutions and technical components, including programming where required.
- Data & AI Architecture: Shape the regional Data & AI architecture, establishing standards and scalable platforms that enable secure data integration, advanced analytics and AI adoption.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership to internal developers, shared engineering teams, and delivery partners, ensuring coding, testing, DevSecOps, observability, performance, and supportability standards are applied. Guide application modernisation, cloud adoption, reusable components, and integration patterns while controlling technical debt.
- Insurance domain and delivery governance: Apply insurance and broking domain knowledge across client, policy, placement, claims, finance, document, and market-facing processes when shaping solutions. Identify architecture, delivery, security, privacy, resilience, and vendor risks early, and drive practical mitigation actions. Support production readiness, release governance, architecture assurance, and post-implementation reviews.
In order to be successful in this role, you will make practical and timely architecture decisions and recommendations, select and implement fit-for-purpose vendor solutions that deliver clear business value and develop secure, scalable and reusable deigital applications. You will focus on minimising rework and complexity and ensure vendor dependencies are managed effectively.
Role Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
- 8 to 10 years of experience in solution architecture, application architecture, software engineering, or technology consulting, including recent hands-on design and development leadership.
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in insurance, insurance broking, or a closely related regulated financial-services environment.
- Strong enterprise and solution architecture experience, covering digital applications, APIs, integrations, data, cloud, security and operational architecture.
- Hands-on experience designing and building modern digital solutions, ideally using Microsoft Azure and technologies such as .NET, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, React or Angular, APIs and modern databases.
- Practical experience with cloud-native architecture and modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, DevSecOps, automated testing, monitoring, containers and serverless technologies.
- Experience evaluating enterprise software and SaaS solutions, including technical due diligence, proof-of-concepts, build-versus-buy assessments and vendor selection.
- Experience across Data & AI architecture, including cloud and data platforms, integration and governance, with a strong understanding of security, resilience, scalability and technology risk.
- Strong stakeholder and vendor management skills, with the ability to challenge constructively, influence senior stakeholders and balance business needs, cost, risk and technology considerations.
- Relevant architecture or cloud certification such as TOGAF, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalent is preferred.
- Professional certifications or demonstrated training in insurance, cybersecurity, integration, or software engineering are advantageous.
