Job Description
Responsibilities
The Canteen Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals for customers in a canteen environment. The cook ensures that food is prepared according to the required recipes, quality standards, hygiene requirements, and daily operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook a variety of meals and dishes according to the menu.
Prepare ingredients such as meat, vegetables, seafood, sauces, spices, and other food items.
Follow recipes and maintain consistent taste, quality, and portion sizes.
Ensure food is cooked properly and served at the appropriate temperature.
Prepare food in sufficient quantities according to expected customer demand.
Assist with preparation of breakfast, lunch, dinner, or other meals as required.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen and cooking areas.
Properly clean and sanitise cooking utensils, equipment, and work surfaces.
Ensure proper storage and handling of raw and cooked food.
Monitor the freshness and quality of ingredients before use.
Minimise food wastage and use ingredients efficiently.
Assist with receiving, checking, and storing food supplies when required.
Follow food safety and hygiene procedures at all times.
Report shortages of ingredients, equipment problems, or food quality issues to the supervisor.
Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth food preparation and service.
Assist with cleaning and closing duties after meal preparation and service.
Perform other kitchen duties assigned by the supervisor or management.
Requirements:
Previous experience as a cook in a canteen, restaurant, food court, or catering establishment is preferred.
Able to prepare and cook different types of dishes.
Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safe food handling.
Able to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods.
Responsible, reliable, and able to work as part of a team.
Willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays where required.
