We are representing our client in the marine sector to look for a Senior Application Developer to design, build, and maintain backend applications for the client's shipping operations. The department is developing a suite of data-driven software products, including user-facing applications, backend services, and AI agents, to automate complex processes and solve their toughest business challenges. You will work closely with Product Owners, architects, and business stakeholders, translate requirements into robust solutions, and help raise engineering standards, including the responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.

Role and Responsibilities:

Design and delivery

• Translate business requirements into feasible, well-architected software solutions.
• Lead software design and planning, supported by clear and concise documentation.
• Design, develop, and optimize backend services, APIs, and asynchronous processes.

Collaboration and analysis

• Study the business domain, use cases, and processes, and engage effectively with business representatives and Product Owners.
• Provide accurate effort estimates and impact analyses for new features and change requests.
• Offer a broad engineering perspective on R&D processes and data flows.

Quality and operations

• Participate actively in testing: identify and flag risks and issues and propose how to assess and mitigate them.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and provide support for applications in production.
• Contribute to code reviews, design reviews, and technical decision-making.
• Reporting and team contribution: Report work progress on a weekly basis.

Requirements:

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Candidates from other disciplines will be considered if they have formal software or programming training.
• Certifications or training in programming, cloud, or AI are an advantage.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on application development experience, with experience designing and developing web-based backend applications and web services.
• Experience working with Product Owners and/or business users.
• Experience with design documents and design review processes.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor).
• Proficiency in at least one backend technology: C#, Java, Node.js, Python, or SQL Server-based applications. Experience in other languages is relevant if it involves web service development.
• Solid grasp of software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practices.
• Experience with microservice-based architectures and developing asynchronous processes.
• Experience with message queues (e.g., SQS, Kafka, RabbitMQ) and at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Working knowledge of modern deployment infrastructure and networking/information security concepts.
• Experience with process and code optimization.
