Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Project Engineer (Plumbing) is responsible for the technical execution, engineering design review, site supervision, and progress tracking of internal cold water, sanitary plumbing, and rainwater downpipe (RWDP) systems.

This role acts as the vital bridge between the project management team, the main contractor, consultants, and site supervisors to ensure installations are completed on schedule, within budget, and in strict compliance with local authorities, technical specifications, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Technical & Engineering Management

  • Design & Shop Drawing Review: Review tender drawings, schematic diagrams, and architectural layouts to identify discrepancies or clashes with structural and other M&E services (e.g., HVAC, electrical trunking, fire fighting).

  • Method Statements: Draft, review, and implement formal Method Statements (MOS) for plumbing installations (e.g., booster pump systems, storage tanks, underground drainage, and specialized piping like copper, uPVC, or HDPE).

  • Material Submission: Prepare and submit material approval forms (MAT), ensuring all pipes, fittings, valves, and equipment comply with project specifications and local standards (such as SPAN/JKR guidelines).

  1. Site Execution & Supervision

  • Progress Tracking: Oversee day-to-day site installation progress against the master construction schedule, ensuring milestones are met.

  • Site Coordination: Manage and coordinate with main contractor and direct labor regarding structural penetrations (sleeves), pipe routing, and equipment structural plinths.

  • Material Control: Monitor on-site material inventories, manage material requisitions, and coordinate with suppliers to prevent shortages or project delays.

  1. Quality Assurance & Testing

  • Testing & Commissioning (T&C): Plan, execute, and witness crucial plumbing tests, including hydrostatic pressure testing for water lines, gravity/smoke testing for sanitary drainage, and chlorination/flushing of water systems.

  • Defect Rectification: Conduct routine inspections to identify installation defects, issue rectification notices, and ensure work complies with QA/QC standards before inspection by consultants.

  1. Contractual & Financial Assistance

  • Progress Claims: Collaborate closely with the Quantity Surveying (QS) team to verify joint site measurements and actual progress on-site for monthly progress claims.

  • Variation Orders (VO): Identify site deviations, design changes, or unforeseen site conditions that constitute variations, and document them with photos and site records for VO claims.

  1. Authority & Client Liaison

  • Authority Compliance: Assist in coordinating inspections with local water and sewerage authorities for final connection approvals and testing certificates.

  • Handover Documentation: Prepare As-Built drawings, Operation and Maintenance Manuals (OMM), and warranty letters for a smooth project handover to the client/building management.

Benefits

  • EPF / SOCSO / PCB
  • Annual leave and medical benefits
  • Performance-based bonus
  • Career growth and learning opportunities
