At Ancourage Academy, we are looking for educators who enjoy asking thoughtful questions, examining evidence and helping students express well-supported ideas.
You will teach small classes of up to six students and develop resources that strengthen subject knowledge, analysis and written communication. You will also have opportunities to learn practical uses of advanced AI and build skills in research, presentation, digital content and programme development.
We welcome specialists in one or more Humanities disciplines or General Paper. Your teaching assignment will reflect the distinct content and assessment demands of the subjects you can confidently teach.
Relevant specialisations include:
History.
Geography.
Social Studies.
Economics.
English Literature.
General Paper.
Related subject courses within relevant IP or IB programmes.
Applicants may specialise in one discipline and level. Each subject will be considered according to your demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with its assessment requirements.
Plan and conduct regular, trial and replacement lessons within your agreed specialisation.
Build students’ subject knowledge and help them apply it to questions and unfamiliar material.
Teach the relevant analytical skills, such as source evaluation, interpretation of data, comparison, explanation or literary analysis.
Help students develop arguments with clear reasoning and appropriate evidence.
Guide students in planning and structuring written responses.
Facilitate purposeful discussion in which students explain and examine their ideas.
Give specific written and verbal feedback that helps students improve their next response.
Develop and review source-based activities, case studies, essay questions, model responses and assessment rubrics.
Check the accuracy, relevance and currency of examples and supporting material.
Track progress and communicate learning goals and areas for improvement to parents.
Collaborate on curriculum resources and agreed development projects.
You will receive company-funded access to selected advanced AI tools, including frontier models approved for the academy’s work, together with practical guidance.
Applications may include:
Exploring possible approaches to a question or topic.
Drafting discussion prompts and comparing argument structures.
Preparing initial outlines for teaching resources and presentations.
Organising research questions and identifying areas requiring verification.
Developing differentiated practice activities.
Improving resource organisation and recurring workflows.
A central part of your development will be learning how to assess AI-generated claims, reasoning and references. You will verify information against appropriate original sources and evaluate whether material is accurate, balanced and suitable for the relevant course.
Teachers retain responsibility for the quality of resources and the appropriate handling of student information. Prior AI or coding experience is helpful but is not required.
This role offers scope to develop skills that are useful across education, research and communication work.
Depending on your interests and readiness, an agreed development focus may include:
Researching a topic and evaluating source quality.
Writing clear explanations, briefs or learning materials.
Presenting complex ideas to different audiences.
Designing visual summaries, presentations and digital content.
Facilitating workshops and structured discussions.
Using spreadsheets to organise information and identify patterns.
Coordinating a project, managing review stages and incorporating feedback.
For example, you could build a reviewed case-study bank, design a source-evaluation workshop or create a programme that helps students improve argument development.
Projects will be selected according to your strengths and the academy’s needs, with assigned training and project work included within working hours.
You will receive onboarding to teaching approaches, curriculum standards and working tools, with opportunities for feedback and collaboration.
Potential career directions include:
Senior Humanities or General Paper Teacher: deepen your subject and teaching expertise.
Subject Lead: contribute to resource quality, teaching standards and subject planning.
Curriculum or Assessment Lead: take greater responsibility for learning sequences, written tasks and assessment frameworks.
Research, Workshop or Programme Project Lead: coordinate a defined resource or learning initiative.
Team or Centre Leadership: develop responsibilities in people support and programme delivery where suitable opportunities arise.
Progression will depend on teaching quality, subject knowledge, contribution and available responsibilities. We value both strong subject specialists and educators who are ready to develop wider leadership responsibilities.
Strong knowledge of at least one relevant discipline and teaching level.
Familiarity with the associated syllabus and assessment requirements.
Clear writing and the ability to explain how to develop a well-supported response.
Sound judgement when assessing evidence, sources and arguments.
An interest in maintaining accurate and useful examples.
A constructive approach to feedback and student discussion.
Reliable preparation and professional communication.
Curiosity about curriculum development and appropriate uses of technology.
Relevant teaching experience is welcome. Strong newer educators and career changers who can demonstrate subject competence, analytical judgement and communication skills are also encouraged to apply.
Preference will be given to candidates who can confidently teach across multiple levels and/or more than one relevant subject, including History, Geography, Social Studies, Economics, English Literature or General Paper. Each subject will be assessed as a distinct specialisation. Strong specialists in an individual subject are also welcome.
Employment type: Full-time.
Location: Bishan and/or Woodlands, according to the agreed roster. Online teaching may be required.
