Bertam Resort & Water Park is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to lead the resort’s day-to-day operations and long-term operational performance. The COO will work closely with the General Manager, ownership and department heads to deliver strong financial results, consistent guest experiences and a successful integration with Marriott standards.

This is a hands-on leadership role covering both resort and water park operations. We are looking for someone who can set clear priorities, develop capable leaders and follow through on improvements across departments.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

• Oversee the performance of Rooms, Front Office, Housekeeping, F&B, Kitchen, Water Park, Spa, Engineering, Security and other operational functions.
• Establish operating standards, service procedures and clear accountability for department heads.
• Coordinate departments to ensure smooth guest journeys, particularly during peak periods, events and high occupancy.
• Identify operational gaps and lead practical improvements in service, staffing, processes and facilities.

Financial and Commercial Performance

• Lead operating budgets, forecasts, productivity plans and cost control measures.
• Review departmental profit and loss results and take action to improve profitability without compromising service quality.
• Partner with Sales, Marketing and Revenue Management to support occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, F&B revenue, events and ancillary income.
• Monitor labour costs, purchasing, inventory, wastage and other key operating expenses.
• Present performance results, risks and corrective action plans to senior management and ownership.

Guest Experience and Brand Standards

• Drive guest satisfaction, complaint resolution and service recovery across the resort.
• Lead operational readiness for Marriott integration, including brand standards, training, audits and performance requirements.
• Ensure that department heads act on guest feedback, quality assessments and inspection findings.
• Maintain consistent service standards across accommodation, dining, recreation and events.

People Leadership

• Coach and develop department heads, strengthen succession planning and build a high-performing leadership team.
• Set measurable departmental goals and conduct regular performance reviews.
• Work with HR on manpower planning, recruitment, training, employee engagement and disciplinary matters.
• Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety and professional conduct.

Safety, Compliance and Asset Care

• Ensure effective controls for food safety, hygiene, workplace safety, security and emergency response.
• Work with Engineering and relevant teams on preventive maintenance, facility standards and asset protection.
• Monitor operational risks and ensure timely corrective action.

Requirements

• Extensive senior leadership experience in hotels or resorts, with oversight of multiple operational departments.
• Proven experience managing budgets, departmental performance and hotel or resort profit and loss.
• Strong understanding of Rooms, F&B, guest experience and commercial performance.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large teams and deliver measurable operational improvements.
• Experience with Marriott brand standards and systems is strongly preferred.
• Integrated resort, water park, pre-opening or brand integration experience is an advantage.
• Excellent leadership, financial, analytical and communication skills.
• Must have unrestricted legal authorisation to work in Malaysia without employer sponsorship.
