Job Description

Responsibilities

Content & Production

Cut Stories That Hold Attention. Shape Emotion. Deliver Videos That Perform.

Company: Thousands of Years Media Sdn. Bhd. (ToYm)

1. ROLE MISSION

At Thousands of Years Media Sdn. Bhd. (ToYm), we are looking for a proven Video Editor who can handle both Micro Drama editing and a wide range of other video content.

This is not a role for someone who only knows how to operate editing software.

We need an editor who understands:

Story -> Emotion -> Pacing -> Retention -> Delivery

You will edit Micro Dramas as well as digital, branded, advertising, social media, promotional and other ToYm video content.

For Micro Drama, you must turn raw footage into clear, emotionally engaging episodes that keep viewers watching from one episode to the next. For other work, you must adapt your editing style to the objective, platform, audience and brand.

2. WHY THIS OPPORTUNITY IS DIFFERENT

At ToYm, you will not be limited to one type of video.

You may work across:

  • Micro Dramas
  • Short-Form Video
  • Branded Content
  • Advertisements
  • Social Media Content
  • Promotional Videos
  • Corporate / Company Content
  • Behind-the-Scenes Content
  • Trailers, Teasers & Highlights
  • Other Entertainment and Commercial Productions

You will work closely with Producers, Directors, Creative, Content and Marketing teams.

We want someone who understands why a scene works, where audiences may lose interest, how to build emotion and how to make the final video serve its purpose.

3. WHAT YOU WILL OWN

A. Micro Drama Editing

  • Edit Micro Drama episodes from raw footage to final delivery.
  • Build strong story flow, continuity, pacing, emotion and character development.
  • Create effective opening hooks and maintain viewer attention throughout each episode.
  • Structure episode endings and cliffhangers to encourage continued viewing.
  • Select the strongest performances, reactions and visual moments.
  • Ensure dialogue, story information and emotional beats are clear.
  • Maintain continuity across episodes, scenes and character arcs.
  • Adapt edits for vertical or other required formats.

B. General Video Editing

  • Edit other ToYm video content according to project objectives.
  • Handle short-form, promotional, branded, advertising and social content.
  • Adapt pacing, tone and editing language for different audiences and platforms.
  • Turn raw footage into clear, engaging finished videos.
  • Produce cut-downs, alternate versions and platform adaptations where required

C. Post-Production Quality

Take responsibility for the overall quality of the edit, including:

  • Picture Editing
  • Audio Clean-Up & Balancing
  • Music Placement
  • Sound Effects
  • Subtitles / Captions
  • Basic Motion Graphics
  • Transitions
  • Colour Correction / Basic Grading
  • Export & Delivery Specifications

Ensure the final video is technically ready for publishing, screening or delivery.

D. Storytelling & Audience Retention

Do not edit only according to the timeline.

Ask:

  • What is the audience supposed to feel?
  • What information do they need?
  • Where could they lose interest?
  • What should make them continue watching?

For Micro Drama and short-form content, understand the importance of:

  • Strong Hooks
  • Fast Story Establishment
  • Emotional Payoff
  • Rhythm & Pacing
  • Suspense
  • Cliffhangers
  • Watch Retention

E. Work With Directors & Producers

  • Understand the Director's and Producer's intended story and creative direction.
  • Review footage and identify missing, weak or alternative options early.
  • Respond constructively to editing notes.
  • Explain editing choices when necessary.
  • Produce revisions efficiently without losing control of continuity or quality.

F. Editing Workflow & Delivery

  • Organise footage, project files, audio, graphics and exports properly.
  • Maintain clear project naming and version control.
  • Manage multiple editing assignments and deadlines.
  • Back up project files according to company workflow.
  • Deliver agreed versions on time.

4. END-TO-END OWNERSHIP

You should be able to take editing work through:

Understand Brief -> Review Footage -> Build Story -> Rough Cut -> Refine -> Sound / Graphics / Colour -> Review-> Revise -> Final QC -> Deliver

Your responsibility is not simply: "I finished the timeline."

Your responsibility is: "The final video communicates the story, meets the objective and is ready for its audience."

5. QKSC - WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We do not select people only based on years of experience, academic qualifications or interview presentation.

We assess candidates through:

Q - Qualification: Do you have real evidence of editing work?

K - Knowledge: Do you understand storytelling, post-production and platform requirements?

S - Skill: Can you actually turn raw footage into a strong finished video?

C - Competency: Can you repeatedly deliver quality work under real production conditions?

Our hiring approach follows:

  • Vertical Video
  • Platform-Specific Delivery
  • File & Project Organisation

You should be proficient in professional editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or equivalent. After Effects, motion graphics or audio-tool knowledge is an advantage.

8. S - SKILL

  • Build a coherent story from raw footage.
  • Identify the strongest takes and performances.
  • Improve pacing without damaging story clarity.
  • Edit dialogue naturally.
  • Create hooks and cliffhangers.
  • Match continuity across scenes.
  • Use music and sound to strengthen emotion.
  • Produce clean subtitles and graphics.
  • Perform basic colour correction.
  • Prepare correct exports for different platforms.
  • Work efficiently through revisions.
  • Diagnose problems in footage and propose practical solutions.
  • Deliver quality work under production deadlines.

9. C - COMPETENCY

  • Story Sense - You understand what makes a scene work.
  • Attention to Detail - You notice continuity, timing, audio, subtitle and visual issues.
  • Ownership - You take responsibility for the quality of the final edit.
  • Effective Execution - You can move from raw footage to finished delivery efficiently.
  • Creative Judgement - You know when to cut, hold, simplify or strengthen a moment.
  • Learning Agility - You can adapt to new formats, tools and editing approaches.
  • Responsibility - You communicate problems early and meet agreed deadlines.
  • Receptiveness to Feedback - You can take direction and improve the work without becoming defensive.
  • Prioritisation - You know which changes materially improve the video and which are minor.
  • Teamwork - You work effectively with Directors, Producers and other production teams.

10. WHAT MATTERS MORE THAN YEARS OR CERTIFICATES

  • What have you edited?
  • What did you personally do?
  • Can you edit narrative content?
  • Can you maintain continuity across multiple episodes?
  • Can you create stronger pacing and emotion?
  • Can you edit for audience retention?
  • How do you respond when footage is weak or incomplete?
  • How do you manage revisions?
  • Can you adapt between Micro Drama and other video formats?
  • Can you consistently deliver on time?

11. MICRO DRAMA SCENARIO

Shortlisted candidates may be given raw Micro Drama footage and asked to create or explain an edit.

We may assess:

  • Opening Hook
  • Story Clarity
  • Pacing
  • Performance Selection
  • Emotional Build-Up
  • Continuity
  • Music & Sound
  • Subtitle Timing
  • Cliffhanger
  • Overall Watchability

We are not looking for one fixed editing style. We want to understand your judgement and whether you know how to make audiences keep watching.

12. OUR VALUES

  • CUSTOMER-CENTRIC
  • PURPOSE-DRIVEN & RESULTS-ORIENTED
  • TEAMWORK
  • RESPONSIBILITY
  • EFFECTIVE EXECUTION
  • HUMBLE & LEARNING
  • PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE
  • CONTINUOUS INNOVATION
  • CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY

13. THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF...

You understand that editing is not simply cutting footage together. You know how to shape story, emotion and attention.

You can handle Micro Drama editing while adapting to commercial, digital and entertainment content, and you care about what the audience actually experiences.

To Apply: Submit your resume and portfolio/showreel. Include examples that clearly show your personal editing contribution. Drama, Micro Drama, narrative or episodic editing samples should be included where available. Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete a practical editing assessment.
