Responsibilities

Partner Tutor – Additional Mathematics (SPM / IGCSE) | In-Person, 1-to-1
Mastermind Tutor

About Mastermind Tutor

Mastermind Tutor is a professionally managed education platform specialising in personalised 1-to-1 learning. Our approach combines academic direction, structured teaching, and progress monitoring to help students develop strong understanding, confidence, and consistent academic achievement.

We invite academically strong and dependable individuals to join our network as Additional Mathematics Partner Tutors for SPM and/or IGCSE.

This role primarily involves in-person, 1-to-1 sessions at students’ homes or designated learning locations. Online assignments are limited. Applicants must have their own transport and be available to travel for regular teaching assignments.

The Role

You will help students understand challenging mathematical concepts, strengthen algebraic fluency, and develop the reasoning needed to solve unfamiliar and multi-step problems.

Partner Tutors work within Mastermind Tutor’s academic framework, supported by teaching guidelines and student-specific learning objectives. Each assignment requires thoughtful preparation, reliable attendance, purposeful teaching, and accurate reporting of student progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person, 1-to-1 Additional Mathematics sessions according to the agreed student schedule and assigned curriculum.
  • Explain concepts clearly and accurately, helping students understand the reasoning behind formulae, methods, and each stage of a solution.
  • Identify gaps in algebraic manipulation and prerequisite knowledge that affect progress.
  • Teach relevant syllabus topics, including functions, quadratics, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, differentiation, and integration.
  • Guide students in interpreting questions, connecting concepts, selecting suitable methods, and presenting complete mathematical working.
  • Develop independent problem-solving through guided examples, structured practice, and progressively challenging questions.
  • Prepare or adapt materials in accordance with assigned learning objectives and Mastermind Tutor’s academic direction.
  • Review homework and corrections, assess understanding, and reinforce topics requiring further consolidation.
  • Submit a report after every session, documenting topics covered, assessment results, learning gaps, and follow-up actions.
  • Follow attendance verification requirements and maintain punctuality, professional communication, and student confidentiality.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or a relevant discipline, including Engineering, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or Education with a Mathematics specialisation.
  • A minimum grade of A− in SPM Additional Mathematics, or A / Grade 7 in IGCSE Additional Mathematics, supported by an official results certificate. Other equivalent qualifications may be considered following academic review.
  • Strong knowledge of the Additional Mathematics curriculum applied for, including subject content, assessment requirements, and examination techniques.
  • Strong algebraic fluency and the ability to explain complex solutions clearly, accurately, and step by step.
  • The ability to support students who struggle with foundational concepts while providing appropriate challenge for stronger learners.
  • A patient, professional attitude, with strong communication skills and willingness to follow academic guidance.
  • Must have your own transport and be willing to conduct sessions at students’ homes or designated learning locations.
  • Must be able to follow the student’s agreed recurring time slot. Some assignments run from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Applicants accepting these assignments must be available for the full session and able to travel at those hours.
  • Reliable availability, punctual attendance, and sufficient travel time between commitments.
  • Able to commit to agreed tutoring assignments for a minimum of three months.

Fresh graduates who meet the requirements and demonstrate strong teaching potential are encouraged to apply.

Subject and Curriculum Matching

Applicants may apply to teach SPM Additional Mathematics, IGCSE Additional Mathematics, or both. Suitability for each curriculum will be assessed separately.

Assignments are matched according to verified qualifications, subject competency, teaching performance, location, availability, and student needs. Applicants must confirm their available days, exact teaching hours, and preferred travel areas before accepting an assignment.

Applicants interested in both Mathematics and Additional Mathematics may indicate both subjects in the shared application form. Only one form submission is required. Eligibility for each subject and curriculum will be assessed separately.

Academic Support and Professional Growth

Partner Tutors receive onboarding guidance, clear teaching expectations, and academic support throughout their assignments.

Development opportunities are based on teaching quality, student progress, reliability, communication, and consistent performance. Strong performance may lead to additional assignments and broader academic responsibilities, subject to suitability and demand.

Application and Selection Process

  • Initial Application

Submit your updated résumé through Indeed for preliminary screening.

  • Application Form and Supporting Documents

Applicants who pass the initial screening will receive a link to Mastermind Tutor’s application form. Complete the form and submit all requested documents within the stated deadline, including academic results, relevant qualifications, teaching availability, and transport details.

  • Subject Competency Assessment and Interview

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an Additional Mathematics competency assessment and interview, which may include a teaching demonstration.

  • Assignment Consideration

Successful applicants will be considered for suitable in-person assignments based on their approved curriculum, teaching competency, location, and availability.

Completion of the application form and submission of all required documents are mandatory. Incomplete applications or failure to complete the provided form will result in the application not being considered further.
