Principal Data Scientist (Financial Institution) | Kuala Lumpur

About the client?
Our client is a leading regional financial institution with a strong presence across Asia. You will join a central Data Science function that partners with the business, and technology team. The role shapes the analytics roadmap, and solutions you build can be replicated across the Group's markets. You will work hands-on with Generative AI, LLMs and AI agents in a regulated environment.

The Role
You will be the technical leader and subject matter expert in Data Science, Machine Learning and Generative AI. Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and deploying advanced analytics and ML solutions, including predictive and propensity models, segmentation, clustering, neural networks, simulation and optimisation
• Building scalable Generative AI solutions with LLMs, RAG, vector databases, AI agents and orchestration frameworks
• Owning the end-to-end model lifecycle, from problem definition and feature engineering to deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement
• Identifying and prioritising high-value AI use cases with business stakeholders, and developing evaluation frameworks to measure accuracy, reliability and business impact
• Leading proofs of concept and experimentation to validate new technologies and applications
• Championing MLOps, AI governance and Responsible AI, and making sure solutions are well documented and auditable
• Mentoring data scientists and building analytics capability across the organisation

What We're Looking For
We want a technically strong practitioner who has taken AI from proof of concept to production and can turn complex models into measurable business value.

You'll bring:

• Minimum 8+ years in data science, machine learning or a related data field
• Proven experience delivering solutions with LLMs, RAG, vector databases, AI agent frameworks, prompt engineering and model evaluation
• Strong grounding in statistical modelling, segmentation, and predictive and propensity models
• Enterprise-scale GenAI deployment experience (e.g. Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Copilot Studio, Databricks), including CI/CD, MLOps/LLMOps and observability
• Deep knowledge of Responsible AI, AI security, hallucination mitigation and AI governance, ideally in financial services or insurance
• Expert SQL (mandatory) and Python
• Strong stakeholder management, with the ability to explain complex concepts to technical, business and senior leadership audiences
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field
