Responsibilities

Job Purpose

The Art Intern plays a vital, energetic role in empowering creativity across a thriving, innovative Art Department. This position blends dynamic technical support, digital innovation, and some studio management to ensure an inspiring, seamlessly run learning environment for both staff and students.

Key Responsibilities

DIGITAL & INNOVATIVE ART SUPPORT

  • Facilitate 3D printing workflows, including slicing, support maintaining the 3D printers, and assisting students and staff with digital sculpture projects (when necessary).
  • Support teaching staff in utilizing digital apps, software, and creative tools on iPads for digital artwork creation.
  • Help organize and manage the digital archiving, high-quality photographing, cataloging, and precise labeling of student artwork for exhibitions, portfolios, and assessment.

CLASSROOM & STUDIO ACTIVITIES

  • Assisting with technical processes and execution of creative projects.
  • Assist in assembling, framing, displaying, and curating dynamic art noticeboard displays, exhibitions and showcases.
  • Support preparation and management of traditional studio materials, including paint, resins, tools, plaster resins etc.
  • Support photocopying, printing and laminating as appropriate.
  • Assist in deploying maintenance department for general upkeep of workspaces

ADMINISTRATIVE & ORGANISATIONAL ACTIVITIES

  • Monitor equipment supply levels, and actively research and source local or specialized art suppliers.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Health & Safety standards, including regular safety audits, hazard reporting, chemical/material storage, and first aid box maintenance.

JOB SPECIFICATION

MINIMUM ACADEMIC / PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, Design, Digital Media, or a related creative discipline.

Related Experience

  • Hands-on experience with digital art applications, 3D printing technology, laser cutters, CAD software, editorial and studio photography and/or digital drawing would be an advantage.
  • Prior experience in a technical or educational art environment (even if at college or university level) is highly advantageous.

Competencies (knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Strong technical proficiency in digital art tools (iPads, design apps, 3D slicing software) and photography equipment.
  • Some knowledge of traditional art techniques, drawing, design and local sourcing of art supplies.
  • Awareness of Health & Safety regulations within an art studio environment.
