Job Description

Responsibilities

Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled and diagnostic-oriented Service Technician to join our Service Department. In this role, you will be responsible for the commissioning, troubleshooting, routine servicing, and overhaul of our heat pump water heating systems across Peninsular Malaysia. This role moves beyond conventional split-unit air conditioning. You will work on advanced thermodynamic and water circuit equipment involving refrigerant circuits, water-to-refrigerant plate heat exchangers, circulation pumps, and digital/PLC control logic.

Key Responsibilities

1. Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

  • Diagnose system faults across refrigeration cycles.
  • Troubleshoot water circuit issues including water flow restrictions, circulation pump failures, differential pressure switches, and airlocks.
  • Trace and rectify electrical and electronic control faults using wiring schematics, multimeters, and onboard controller alarm logs.

2. Servicing, Overhaul & Preventive Maintenance

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on heat pump packages, buffer tanks, water strainers, and circulation loops.
  • Conduct field brazing, pressure leak testing (nitrogen), vacuum evacuation down to micron levels, and precise refrigerant charging.
  • Carry out chemical descaling and cleaning of plate and shell-and-tube heat exchangers.

3. Commissioning & Operating

  • Assist in initial equipment start-up, parameter tuning, sensor calibration, and performance validation.
  • Conduct heat pump performance assessment & analysis from time to time to ensure optimal operation.
  • Complete detailed service job sheets, incident reports, and commissioning logs using provided reporting tools.

4. Operational Flexibility & Emergency Response

  • Regional Travel: Travel across Peninsular Malaysia for project deployments, emergency breakdowns, and scheduled site services.
  • On-Call Standby: Participate in an on-call standby roster for after-hours emergency breakdown calls.
  • Shift Work: Work on rotational shifts, including night-shift schedules when site shutdowns or critical commercial facilities require off-hours servicing.

Job Requirements

Technical Background & Experience

  • Education: Certificate / Diploma in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent SKM Level 2/3
  • Work Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on technical experience with industrial chillers (air-cooled or water-cooled).

Technical Competencies

  • Proven ability to interpret electrical wiring diagrams, control schematics, and refrigeration piping diagrams (P&ID).
  • Sound understanding of pressure-enthalpy principles (calculate superheat and subcooling rather than relying purely on suction gauge pressure).
  • Experience with brazing (copper-to-copper, copper-to-brass/steel) and safe refrigerant handling procedures.
  • Familiarity with water components: inline circulation pumps, check valves, expansion tanks, and motorized modulating valves.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Mobility: Must possess a valid Malaysia driving license (Class D is required; GDL is an added advantage) and be comfortable driving long distances across Peninsular Malaysia.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to adhere strictly to the night shift rotation schedule and after-hours weekend/weekday standby duties.
  • Physically capable of working in equipment plant rooms, rooftop installations, and outdoor service environments.
