ABOUT ALETA PLANET

Aleta Planet is a Singapore-based fintech and payment services provider, licensed and regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore as a Major Payment Institution and a Principal Member of VISA. We build cross-border payment infrastructure, multi-currency business accounts, card issuance and API integrations. Founded in 2014, we now operate across Hong Kong, Dubai, Malaysia and Canada, and our Malaysian entity holds a Bank Negara Malaysia e-money licence.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will own the compliance function day to day, and the compliance decisions are yours. You report to our Executive Director, who also heads Legal — so you sit inside the control side of the business, independent of revenue, with an experienced counterpart to test your thinking against.

You make the calls. Not a reviewer, not an adviser to someone who decides — the person accountable for whether we are compliant. That includes the uncomfortable decisions: declining a client the business wants, filing a report nobody enjoys filing, telling the founder that something has to stop.

You hold the regulators. MAS, Bank Negara Malaysia, and the authorities in our other jurisdictions. That means submissions and returns, but more importantly being the person the regulator knows and trusts, so that when something does go wrong the relationship already exists.

You run monitoring and onboarding through our Malaysian team, and you keep our banking partners comfortable — their due diligence, their reviews, and the RFIs that arrive with a short fuse. For a cross-border payments business, a bank pulling the plug is an existential event.

You build the system we don't have yet. Most compliance monitoring is reactive — an alert fires, someone clears it, and the pattern underneath goes unseen until a regulator or a partner bank points it out. You'll work with our technology team to build AI-assisted monitoring that surfaces trends and emerging behaviour before they become somebody else's finding.

Payments experience is a significant advantage. The typologies in cross-border payments and card issuing are particular — nested relationships, trade-based laundering, card-not-present fraud, mule networks moving through e-money. The instinct for where money goes wrong is harder to teach than our products are.

We'll teach you our platform, our corridors and our partners. We can't teach you the willingness to be the person who says no when it costs something.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Own the compliance function

• Own the group compliance framework — policies, procedures, risk assessments and controls — and keep it current as the business and the rules move

• Make the key compliance decisions, including the ones the business doesn't want, and show your reasoning afterwards

• Maintain the enterprise-wide AML/CFT risk assessment and the risk ratings that flow from it

• Report to your Executive Director, the board and management on compliance risk and incidents — honestly and early, escalating to the founder or board where a matter requires it

Regulators and licensing

• Act as the group's principal compliance contact with MAS, Bank Negara Malaysia and our other regulators

• Own all periodic regulatory reporting and notifications across the group, and manage inspections, thematic reviews and ad-hoc requests

• Maintain compliance with the Payment Services Act and applicable MAS Notices, and BNM's e-money and AML/CFT requirements

• Support new licence applications led by Legal, providing the control environment, policies and evidence they rest on

AML/CFT, sanctions and monitoring

• Lead the offshore monitoring team across transaction monitoring, screening alert disposition and escalation

• Set and tune detection rules and thresholds, and review whether they catch what they should rather than generate noise

• Own name and sanctions screening, including targeted financial sanctions obligations, freezing and reporting

• Make the filing decisions on suspicious transaction reports, and own their quality and timeliness

• Assure the team's work through sampling — a cleared queue is not a reviewed queue

Onboarding and due diligence

• Own the CDD and EDD framework: what we collect, what we verify, and what we do when it doesn't add up, including the escalation path for higher-risk customers, PEPs and complex ownership structures

• Make the final call on onboarding and offboarding where risk is in question, and make sure periodic reviews actually happen

Banking partners and card schemes

• Be the primary compliance contact for our banking and settlement partners

• Handle partner due diligence, Wolfsberg questionnaires and periodic reviews, and clear RFIs promptly and completely

• Investigate issues partners raise and feed the root causes back into our controls

• Maintain compliance with Visa scheme rules and keep us inside the monitoring thresholds

Build AI-assisted monitoring

• Work with our technology and data teams to build AI-assisted monitoring layered over our existing rules-based system

• Shift the function from clearing alerts to spotting patterns: emerging trends, anomalous behaviour and concentrations across customers, corridors and counterparties

• Make every output explainable — you must be able to tell MAS, Bank Negara or a partner bank precisely why the system flagged something, and why it did not flag something else

• Keep accountability with people: the system assists the analyst, but escalation and filing decisions stay with named individuals

Lead the team

• Manage, develop and grow the Malaysian compliance team, and set the standard their work is measured against

• Hire as the function grows, and deliver AML/CFT training that lands rather than ticks a box

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Demonstrated ownership of a compliance function, or a major pillar of one, as the person accountable rather than as support

• Direct experience dealing with a financial regulator — submissions, inspections, or a licence application you personally owned

• Deep working knowledge of AML/CFT and sanctions: risk assessment, CDD and EDD, monitoring, screening and STR filing

• Experience managing a monitoring or onboarding team, and assuring the quality of their decisions rather than just their throughput

• The judgement and the spine to make a decision the business doesn't like, and to hold it — the single most important requirement

• Experience dealing with banking partners or correspondent banks on due diligence and RFIs

• Able to explain a compliance position clearly to a regulator, a bank, a board and a salesperson

• Able to specify a system and judge what comes back, with genuine interest in applying AI to monitoring and clear eyes about explainability and model risk

• Experience in payments, e-money, card issuing or acquiring is a significant advantage — as is familiarity with MAS Notice PSN01 and the Payment Services Act, or BNM's requirements

• A relevant certification (ICA, ACAMS or equivalent) is welcome but not required

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Twelve months in: every regulatory submission on time and complete; a framework that could be handed to an inspector tomorrow; monitoring that stands up to sampling; partner RFIs cleared quickly; the business told no at least once, and the relationship survived it; and a first version of the AI-assisted monitoring live, explainable, and surfacing something we would otherwise have missed.

WHAT MATTERS TO US

Independence — you sit outside the revenue line and your job is to say what is true, regardless of who finds it inconvenient. Judgement — rules rarely answer the question in front of you, and your reasoning matters more than the citation. Directness — you raise the problem early, including when it is awkward and when it is expensive. And proportion: compliance exists so the business can operate safely, not so it can't operate.

WHAT YOU'LL GET

• Full ownership of the compliance function, with the mandate and authority to run it properly

• A reporting line into the Executive Director for Legal — a genuine counterpart rather than a business owner marking your homework — with board-level visibility

• Breadth that is hard to find in one role: multiple regulators, multiple licences, card schemes, banking partners and a monitoring team

• The chance to build a monitoring capability from scratch rather than inherit someone else's
