Job Description

Responsibilities

Company Description Moo Point Steaks is a modern steakhouse in Georgetown, Penang, focused on serving expertly prepared steaks without unnecessary formality. Located in a restored heritage shophouse on Hutton Lane, the restaurant emphasizes quality beef cooked with precision and respect for each cut. The dining experience is casual yet refined, featuring a communal table for shared meals and a cozy upstairs space for more intimate gatherings. Service is relaxed and comfortable, with dishes served together for ease rather than in rigid courses. The name reflects the belief that debates over the “best” steak are less important than ensuring every steak served is consistently on point.

Role Description The Chef at Moo Point Steaks is responsible for planning, preparing, and executing the steak-focused menu with consistent quality and attention to detail. Day-to-day tasks include managing kitchen operations, overseeing food preparation and plating, monitoring ingredient quality, and ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are met. The role involves collaborating with the management team on menu development, maintaining inventory and ordering supplies, and training and guiding kitchen staff. The Chef will also help create a smooth service flow that aligns with the restaurant’s casual yet refined dining style. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Georgetown.

Qualifications

  • Strong culinary skills in grilling, roasting, and steak preparation, with a solid understanding of meat cuts and doneness levels.
  • Experience in menu planning, food presentation, and maintaining consistent culinary standards in a restaurant setting.
  • Knowledge of kitchen operations, including inventory management, cost control, and coordination with front-of-house teams.
  • Commitment to food safety, sanitation, and hygiene practices in line with local regulations and industry standards.
  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate kitchen staff, fostering a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive work environment.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to work efficiently during busy service periods.
  • Prior experience in steakhouses or grill-focused restaurants is an advantage; formal culinary training or certification is beneficial.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and to adapt to the restaurant’s casual yet refined service style.
