Platform & Digital Transformation Technical Lead

Role Overview

The Technical Lead is responsible for leading end-to-end technical delivery, ensuring engineering excellence, and driving successful execution of complex technology initiatives. The role provides hands-on technical leadership, manages delivery and technical risks, and guides engineering teams through design, build, testing, deployment, and operational transition activities.

The Technical Lead acts as the bridge between Architecture, Engineering, Delivery, and Business stakeholders, ensuring solutions are delivered to agreed quality, security, performance, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery & Technical Leadership

• Lead end-to-end technical delivery from detailed design through build, testing, deployment, cutover, and hypercare.
• Manage technical risks, dependencies, and implementation challenges across multiple workstreams and teams.
• Provide technical leadership and direction to engineering teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Ensure technical deliverables align with business requirements, architectural standards, and programme objectives.
• Drive issue resolution, decision-making, and technical governance activities.

Solution Design & Engineering

• Translate solution architecture into detailed technical designs and implementation plans including creations of low level design documents.
• Lead the design and delivery of scalable, secure, resilient, and maintainable technology solutions.
• Establish and enforce engineering standards, design patterns, and development best practices.
• Ensure appropriate consideration of security, performance, availability, and operational requirements throughout delivery.

Integration & Data

• Design and oversee system integrations across enterprise applications, platforms, and services.
• Ensure data integrity, quality, security, and governance across solution components.
• Drive implementation of robust API, microservices, messaging, and data exchange patterns.

Engineering Excellence

• Establish and enforce code quality, testing, and review standards.
• Promote automation, continuous integration, and continuous delivery practices.
• Ensure observability, monitoring, logging, and operational readiness are embedded within solutions.
• Drive continuous improvement and reduction of technical debt.

Stakeholder & Team Management

• Collaborate with Architects, Product Owners, Business Analysts, Delivery Leads, and Operations teams.
• Communicate technical decisions, risks, issues, and mitigation plans to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentor and coach engineers to develop technical capability and engineering maturity.
• Coordinate activities across Front-End, Back-End, Integration, Data, QA, and DevOps teams where applicable.

Mandatory Skills

• Deep expertise in designing, building, and operating highly available, scalable, and resilient distributed systems.
• Strong experience delivering enterprise-scale applications and technology solutions.
• Hands-on experience with modern software engineering practices and development frameworks.
• Strong experience with infrastructure automation and CI/CD pipelines on AWS and/or Azure cloud platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to embed observability, operational readiness, and lifecycle ownership into engineering delivery.
• Experience delivering solutions spanning custom development, configured platforms, cloud services, and third-party integrations.
• Extensive knowledge of application performance monitoring and management tools.
• Strong understanding of API design, integration patterns, and enterprise application architecture.
• Experience leading engineering teams and managing technical delivery risks.

Experience

• 12+ years of experience in enterprise technology delivery within large-scale environments.
• 3+ years in a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, or equivalent technical leadership role.
• Proven experience leading complex application development and integration programmes.
• Experience working in Agile and hybrid delivery environments.
• Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering teams across distributed delivery locations.

• SIT, UAT, performance testing, and production release support.
• Operational readiness deliverables including monitoring, runbooks, support documentation, and handover materials.
• Technical risk, issue, and dependency management.
• Leadership and coordination of engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle.
