Role Description
The Game Tester / Game Economy Designer / Narrative Designer supports the quality, progression, and storytelling of games. Depending on the assigned specialization, the role involves testing gameplay and documenting defects, designing and balancing in-game economies, or developing stories, characters, dialogue, and branching narratives.
The successful candidate will collaborate with design, engineering, art, and production teams to deliver a consistent and engaging player experience. This position also evaluates player feedback, identifies issues, and refines game content and systems throughout development.
Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in game design, creative writing, economics, digital media, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Relevant experience in game testing, game economy design, or narrative design, depending on the assigned specialization.
- Work samples demonstrating relevant skills, such as bug reports, economy models, writing samples, or interactive narratives.
- Understanding of game development workflows, player behavior, and iterative development.
- For testing positions, ability to develop test cases, reproduce defects, document findings clearly, and verify fixes.
- For economy design positions, experience designing progression, currencies, rewards, resource flows, and balancing models.
- For economy design positions, proficiency in spreadsheets and the ability to analyze player data and simulate economic outcomes.
- For narrative design positions, strong writing skills and experience developing dialogue, quests, characters, and branching story structures.
- Familiarity with game engines, issue tracking systems, or narrative tools relevant to the specialization.
- Ability to assess how gameplay systems and content affect the player experience.
- Strong analytical or creative problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail and consistency.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to incorporate feedback, collaborate across disciplines, and meet production deadlines.
