About the Role
The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, improving, and maintaining automated production systems to maximize operational efficiency, reliability, and quality. This role plays a key part in ensuring smooth plant operations by leading automation projects, optimizing PLC/robotic systems, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
You will collaborate closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to enhance automation capabilities in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Automation System Development & Optimization
- Lead programming, configuration, and optimization of PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron).
- Develop SCADA/HMI interfaces and improve system usability.
- Design and implement automation upgrades to improve productivity, quality, and safety.
2. Troubleshooting & Technical Support
- Provide expert-level troubleshooting support for automation, electrical, and control system issues.
- Conduct root cause analysis for recurring failures and implement long‑term solutions.
- Support 24/7 manufacturing operations through on‑call assistance when required.
3. Project Management
- Lead automation improvement projects from planning to execution.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and suppliers for system upgrades or new installations.
- Ensure all automation projects comply with internal standards, safety, and regulatory requirements.
4. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Develop and maintain automation-related PM programs to reduce downtime.
- Ensure documentation of system changes, wiring diagrams, program versions, and equipment history.
5. Collaboration, Training & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with production teams to identify automation enhancement opportunities.
- Train technicians and operators on system functionality and troubleshooting basics.
- Stay updated on the latest automation technologies, robotics, and Industry 4.0 advancements.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automation, Mechatronics, or related engineering field.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years hands-on experience in industrial automation, PLC programming, or control systems engineering.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron).
- Experience with robotics, SCADA, HMI, and industrial automation networks.
- Strong mechanical & electrical troubleshooting capabilities.
Soft Skills
- Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
- Good teamwork, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred
- Experience in food manufacturing or high-volume production environment.
- Familiarity with ISO standards, HACCP, GMP, and safety regulations.
