Job Title: Sales Engineer (Penang)
Our client is a leading provider of advanced sealing solutions for industrial applications, committed to delivering high-quality products that meet stringent industry standards and exceed customer expectations.
Scope of Work
1. Sales & Business Development
- Identify and develop new business opportunities in industries such as oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, power generation, and manufacturing etc.
- Maintain and expand relationships with existing clients (contractors, EPCs, end-users, distributors).
- Prepare and deliver technical sales presentations to promote sealing and fluid control solutions (e.g., spiral wound gasket, sheet gasket, packing and other affilated products).
- Achieve assigned sales targets, gross margin, and revenue goals.
2. Technical Support & Solution Selling
- Provide technical consultation to customers on gasket selection based on:
- Operating conditions (pressure, temperature, media)
- Flange type and standards (ASME, DIN, JIS)
- Recommend suitable sealing solutions such as:
- Spiral wound gaskets (SWG)
- Ring type joints (RTJ)
- Compressed fibre sheets / PTFE gaskets
- Handle basic troubleshooting of sealing failures (leakage, installation issues, incorrect selection).
- Coordinate with engineering or factory teams for custom-made or special gaskets (ePTFE, non-standard sizes, etc.).
3. Quotation & Tender Management
- Prepare quotations, proposals, and technical documentation based on customer requirements.
- Interpret technical drawings, datasheets, and tender specifications.
- Participate in RFQs, tenders, and project bids.
- Ensure pricing aligns with company policy, margins, and distributor agreements.
4. Customer Relationship Management
- Build long-term partnerships with key stakeholders (engineers, buyers, maintenance teams).
- Conduct regular customer visits, site inspections, and follow-ups.
- Provide after-sales support and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Handle customer feedback, complaints, and coordinate corrective actions.
5. Market Intelligence & Strategy
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and pricing levels in Malaysia and the region.
- Provide feedback to management on product positioning and market demand.
- Identify opportunities in shutdown/turnaround (TA) projects and maintenance contracts.
6. Coordination & Internal Support
- Liaise with:
- Production/manufacturing teams (local or overseas)
- Logistics and supply chain teams
- Ensure timely delivery and order fulfilment, especially for project timelines.
- Assist in inventory planning (especially for fast-moving gasket sizes).
7. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure adherence to industry standards and certifications (e.g., ASTM, ASME, API requirements).
- Maintain proper documentation for:
- Quotations
- Technical submittals
- Customer approvals
8. Reporting
- Prepare regular reports on:
- Sales performance
- Pipeline and forecast
- Project updates
- Update CRM system (if applicable).
Key Requirements
- Minimum SPM qualification required; Degree is preferred
- Prefer candidates from Mechanical or related Engineering backgrounds
- Must be able to perform both hunter and farmer responsibilities
- Strong business development capability in identifying new opportunities and developing industrial client accounts
- Experience in rotating equipment industry (pumps, motors, bearings, or related mechanical equipment) is highly preferred
- Strong understanding of mechanical seals, gaskets, and industrial sealing solutions is an added advantage
- Candidates with technical sales or industrial aftermarket/MRO exposure will have an added advantage
