Data Centre Network Technician / Engineer

Location: Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Employment Term: 12-month renewable contract, 9am-6pm, 5-day work week

Job Summary

We are looking for a Data Centre Network Technician / Engineer to support data centre operations with a strong focus on network infrastructure, troubleshooting, configuration, and connectivity support.


The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in data centre or network infrastructure environments and be comfortable supporting both data centre floor activities and network device troubleshooting/configuration. Candidates with CCNA or equivalent networking certification will be preferred.


Key Responsibilities

Support daily data centre operations, including rack & stack, cabling, equipment installation, hardware checks, remote hands, and physical infrastructure support.

Perform network troubleshooting for connectivity, link failure, port issues, VLAN issues, IP addressing, routing/switching, and fibre/copper cabling issues.

Assist in configuring and supporting network devices such as switches, routers, firewalls, access switches, and related network infrastructure.

Support network deployment, migration, upgrade, and maintenance activities within the data centre environment.

Perform fibre patching, cross-connect support, cable tracing, labelling, SFP/QSFP module replacement, and link validation.

Work closely with Network Engineers, Data Centre Operations, Facilities, vendors, and customers to resolve incidents and support project activities.

Assist in preparing and following MOPs, SOPs, change requests, maintenance windows, and operational procedures.

Monitor, update, and manage tickets, incidents, inventory records, asset movement, and operational documentation.

Support preventive maintenance, equipment replacement, hardware troubleshooting, and basic server/network hardware support.

Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with data centre safety, security, access control, cabling, and operational standards.


Requirements

Diploma or Degree in IT, Computer Networking, Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related field.

Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience in data centre operations, network support, NOC, field network engineering, infrastructure support, or similar environment.

Hands-on knowledge of TCP/IP, IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, routing, switching, trunk/access ports, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, and basic firewall concepts.

Experience supporting Cisco, Aruba, Huawei, Juniper, Fortinet, or similar network devices.

Able to perform basic network configuration and troubleshooting independently.

Experience with fibre/copper cabling, structured cabling, patch panels, cross-connects, SFP/QSFP modules, and cable testing will be advantageous.

Familiar with ticketing systems, incident handling, escalation, change management, and documentation.

Willing to support data centre floor activities, after-hours maintenance, and operational requirements when needed.

CCNA or equivalent networking certification is strongly preferred.


Preferred Skills

Experience working in data centre, colocation, hyperscale, ISP, telco, NOC, or enterprise network environments.

Knowledge of network monitoring tools such as PRTG, SolarWinds, Grafana, Zabbix, or similar.

Exposure to server hardware, rack & stack, remote hands, DCIM, asset management, and RMA processes.

Basic Linux or Windows server troubleshooting experience.
