Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

To lead and manage site-based electrical engineering execution for large-scale renewable energy project portfolios, ensuring all electrical works are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in full compliance with technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements. The role is accountable for on-site coordination, construction supervision, testing, commissioning, and handover of all electrical systems to achieve successful project completion and commercial operation.


JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES / KEY RESULT AREA

1) Site Electrical Engineering & Design Management

  • Manage and review all electrical design deliverables including, single line diagrams (SLD), layout drawings, cable routing & sizing, MV/HV substation design, protection coordination, earthing & lightning protection systems, auxiliary power systems and LV systems.
  • Ensure designs issued for construction are buildable, coordinated, and aligned with site conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, MS), utility grid codes, Employer’s Requirements and project specifications.
  • Review OEM designs (PCS, inverter, transformer, switchgear, SCADA, BESS if hybrid).

2) Grid Connection & Authority Compliance

  • Manage site compliance to grid code requirements (e.g., reactive power, fault ride-through, frequency/watt control, protection settings, communication systems).
  • Coordinate site activities related to authority inspections, energization permits, and approvals.
  • Support utility witnessing for testing, energization and synchronization.

3) Construction Management

  • Lead and supervise on-site installation of electrical works including but not limited to, LV systems, MV/HV systems, cables, substations, transformers, switchgears, protection & control panels, earthing & bonding systems, telecommunication systems, SCADA and BESS.
  • Ensure all works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, method statements, and inspection and test plan (ITP).
  • Resolve site technical issues, clashes, and constructability challenges promptly to avoid delays.
  • Lead the coordination between EPC, OEM vendors and grid utilities.

4) Testing, Commissioning & Performance

  • Lead and coordinate FAT, SAT, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and energization activities for all electrical systems.
  • Ensure readiness of systems, documentation, and permits prior to energization.
  • Lead and coordinate commissioning schedule with EPC, OEM, and TNB/System Operator.
  • Monitor performance during commissioning and resolve defects or non-conformances to achieve Commercial Operation Date (COD).

5) Quality, HSE, and Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with QA/QC requirements including inspections, tests, and commissioning.
  • Support HSE teams in implementing safe construction practices for power related activities
  • Prepare progress reports, technical assessments, and risk updates for management.

6) Project Support and Handover

  • Provide technical engineering support throughout construction, commissioning and handover stages.
  • Support preparation and verification of as-built drawings, operation manuals, and handover dossiers.
  • Ensure smooth transition from construction to operations and maintenance team.

7) Team Leadership and Capability Development

  • Lead, supervise, and mentor site electrical engineers and supervisors.
  • Build strong site execution capability through coaching, guidance, and performance oversight.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and technical excellence on site.


MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

Formal Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or commensurate level of experience/ achievements
  • Electrical Engineering or Renewables Engineering preferred
