We are seeking a highly motivated and technically competent Assistant Application Engineer specializing in Diesel Power Generators to support data centre and power generation projects in Malaysia. This role combines application engineering, quality assurance, and hands-on testing and commissioning responsibilities.
The successful candidate will play a critical role across the product lifecycle — from design validation and factory testing to on-site commissioning and final acceptance. The position requires strong technical expertise in diesel power generation systems, rigorous testing methodologies, and compliance with industry standards. The engineer will collaborate closely with internal teams, factories, vendors, and clients to ensure systems meet performance, safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Application Engineering and Product Support
- Provide technical application support for diesel power generator systems in data centre and industrial projects.
- Review customer specifications and Single Line Diagrams (SLD) to ensure technical alignment and compliance.
- Support generator sizing and configuration based on project load profiles and operational requirements.
- Assist in design evaluation and recommend improvements for performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Support cross-functional teams in resolving technical and performance-related issues.
- Liaise with factories and vendors to ensure alignment on specifications, testing requirements, and delivery schedules.
Testing and Commissioning (FAT, SAT, IST)
- Perform and manage Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and Integrated Systems Tests (IST).
- Develop, review, and execute comprehensive test plans, procedures, and protocols aligned with customer and project requirements.
- Conduct hands-on testing of diesel generators, electrical systems, control systems, and associated power equipment.
- Verify load acceptance performance in accordance with project specifications.
- Perform transient response testing to validate system stability and dynamic performance.
- Validate generator protection functions and settings in accordance with applicable standards.
- Conduct synchronisation and load sharing verification for parallel generator operations.
- Ensure all systems comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, NEC) and regulatory requirements.
- Provide on-site technical support during genset installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Coordinate commissioning activities with project teams to meet overall project milestones and schedules.
Quality Control and Validation
- Develop and implement structured testing methodologies to validate performance, durability, and reliability.
- Identify, document, and report defects or non-conformities discovered during testing.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues efficiently.
- Ensure full technical compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements prior to system handover.
- Ensure products are thoroughly tested before manufacturing release or customer deployment.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of test results, defect logs, corrective actions, and compliance documentation.
- Prepare detailed test reports, commissioning reports, and technical documentation.
- Review and contribute to commissioning plans, operation manuals, and project documentation.
- Communicate findings clearly to internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to improving testing processes, commissioning practices, and quality control systems.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices in diesel power generation and data centre infrastructure.
- Support implementation of test automation tools and product lifecycle management systems where applicable.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven experience in testing, quality control, or applications engineering, preferably with diesel power generators or similar systems.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine operations, performance metrics, and troubleshooting methods.
- Proficiency in creating test plans, executing tests, and diagnosing technical issues.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with generator control systems, protection principles, and power system integration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in data centre or mission-critical power infrastructure projects
- Exposure to ISO 8528 standards for generator performance and testing
- CIDB certification
