Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Failure Analysis (FA) Engineer to join our Quality Assurance team. In this role, you will lead defect investigations, root cause analysis (RCA), and structural failure analysis on plastic injection-molded components, driving robust corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to eliminate recurrence and ensure high production quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Defect & Failure Analysis: Lead root-cause failure analysis (RCA), fractography, microscopic inspection, mechanical testing, and cross-sectioning analysis on production failures, NPI validation drops, and customer returns.
- Defect Troubleshooting: Diagnose complex plastic injection molding defects, including warpage, environmental stress cracking (ESC), weld line weaknesses, internal voids, short shots, sink marks, flash, and dimensional variations.
- NPI & Mold Qualification: Review First Article Inspection (FAI) dimensional reports, evaluate part integrity during mold trials, engineering validation tests (EVT), and audit structural/aesthetic margins.
- Quality Systems & Process Control: Monitor process capability (Cp/Cpk), implement PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, and adhere to ISO/QMS standards.
- Cross-Functional & Customer Advisory: Present technical failure analysis reports directly to clients and Customer Quality Engineering teams during critical escalations. Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Tooling, and SQE teams.
Job Requirements
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Polymer/Plastic Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of QA/Quality Engineering experience within a plastic injection molding manufacturing environment.
- Technical Expertise: Deep technical understanding of plastic injection molding process parameters (temperatures, pressure, speed, cooling time) and polymer material defect mechanisms.
- Quality Methodologies: Proficient in 8D problem-solving, CAPA, 7 QC Tools, PFMEA, Control Plan, SPC, and MSA.
- Technical & Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T specifications, correlate physical defects with 3D CAD/Moldflow models, and perform dimensional analysis.
- Communication & Software: Excellent technical reporting and communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Strong ability to work independently and manage multiple quality projects within tight timeline
