Role Description
The Sous Chef is responsible for supporting the Executive Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations and ensuring the consistent preparation and presentation of high-quality food. This role includes supervising kitchen staff, coordinating food production, maintaining food safety and hygiene standards, and ensuring smooth kitchen operations. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong culinary expertise, leadership skills, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering exceptional food quality within a hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive Chef in managing daily kitchen operations and ensuring smooth food production.
- Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff during food preparation and service to maintain high standards of quality and efficiency.
- Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented according to established recipes, standards, and portion specifications.
- Monitor food quality, freshness, storage, and presentation to ensure consistency and guest satisfaction.
- Coordinate with the Executive Chef and other departments to plan menus, special events, and daily food requirements.
- Monitor inventory, food usage, and wastage to support effective cost control and minimize unnecessary expenses.
- Train, coach, and motivate kitchen team members to maintain professional standards and encourage teamwork.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and workplace safety standards at all times.
- Assist in managing kitchen schedules, staff allocation, and daily operational requirements.
- Handle kitchen-related issues promptly and support the Executive Chef in implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and food quality.
Key Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a professional kitchen, preferably in a hotel or luxury hospitality environment.
- Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and presentation.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and kitchen safety standards.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Good understanding of food cost control, inventory management, and minimizing food wastage.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
