Head of Purchasing

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Head of Purchasing to lead the overall procurement function. The role will be responsible for developing purchasing strategies, managing key suppliers, driving cost savings, and ensuring a reliable and efficient supply of materials and services to support business operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement procurement strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with business objectives.
• Lead and manage the purchasing/procurement team, driving performance and continuous improvement.
• Oversee sourcing and procurement activities for raw materials, services, logistics, CAPEX, and other spend categories.
• Lead RFQ/RFP/tender exercises and negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and service agreements.
• Drive cost reduction and cost-saving initiatives while maintaining quality and supply reliability.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and monitor their performance in terms of cost, quality, delivery, and service.
• Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including supplier dependency, market volatility, and supply disruptions.
• Work closely with Operations, Finance, Quality, R&D, and other departments to ensure continuous supply and effective procurement planning.
• Manage purchasing budgets, inventory levels, payment terms, and working capital.
• Ensure supplier contracts and procurement activities comply with company policies, legal requirements, and ethical standards.
• Monitor procurement KPIs and provide regular reports and recommendations to management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, or related field.
• 10–15+ years of procurement/purchasing experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership position.
• Strong experience in strategic sourcing, supplier management, contract negotiation, and cost reduction.
• Proficient in SAP/ERP systems and procurement data analysis.
• Strong negotiation, analytical, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage supply chain risks and make strategic decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• MBA, CSCP, CPSM, or relevant professional certification is an advantage.
