1. Classroom Support
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing daily lesson plans tailored to students with diverse learning needs.
- Support students during instructional activities, ensuring understanding through simplified explanations, visual aids, or hands-on guidance.
- Prepare and organize learning materials, adaptive tools, and assistive devices.
2. Behavioral and Emotional Support
- Help maintain a positive, structured, and safe learning environment.
- Implement behaviour-management strategies as guided by the teacher or school protocols.
- Provide emotional regulation support, de-escalation assistance, and encouragement during challenging moments.
3. Individualized Student Assistance
- Provide one-on-one or small-group support for students who require additional guidance academically, socially, or behaviourally.
- Assist with IEP (Individualized Education Plan) goals by reinforcing targeted skills such as communication, motor skills, social interaction, or life skills.
- Monitor student progress and report observations to the lead teacher.
4. Personal Care Duties (when required)
- Assist students with toileting, hygiene routines, feeding, or mobility support as appropriate and according to school policy.
- Maintain student dignity, privacy, and comfort during all personal care tasks.
5. Safety and Supervision
- Supervise students during classroom transitions, recess, lunch, field trips, or other school activities.
- Ensure a safe environment by anticipating risks and intervening appropriately.
- Follow emergency procedures and assist students during drills or crisis situations.
6. Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate regularly with the lead teacher regarding student progress, behaviours, and concerns.
- Work collaboratively with therapists, counselors, and other support staff involved in students' development.
- Maintain professional communication with parents only as directed by the teacher or school administration.
7. Administrative and Organizational Tasks
- Record student behaviors, achievements, or incidents as required.
- Assist in organizing classroom materials, scheduling activities, and managing documentation related to student support.
- Support the teacher with classroom setup, cleanliness, and preparation for daily activities.
8. Professional Conduct
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information at all times.
- Participate in training sessions, workshops, or meetings to improve skills related to special education.
- Uphold the school’s policies, code of conduct, and inclusive education practices.
